Strengthened by community partnership, Treehouse Theater (THT) has been supporting youth education and development through quality performing arts programming since 2012. Once limited to Manitowoc and Two Rivers, families now come as far as Sheboygan, Brillion, and Green Bay to participate in programming and join in the audiences. S
ince 2012, THT has featured 2,000+ youth in 30+ local musical productions, won awards at the Junior Theater Festival national competitions in Atlanta, designed and renovated their 11,000 sq ft studio, and presented numerous fundraising events to sustain their mission. Year-round operations of this nonprofit are guided by the Board of Directors. Karen Rohrer, integral founder of the organization, serves as full-time Executive Director. Karen is joined by part-time team members: Erin Nycz, Education Director; Danielle Frahm, Office Manager; and John Iannitello, Facility Manager. THT secures a fresh directing team for each musical and any interested student can choose to audition for the opportunity to appear onstage as cast members, apply as Jr. production team members, or volunteer to assist as members of the stage or technical crews. Each cast is a blend of new and returning student actors, all of whom are encouraged to explore their artistic individuality, be creative and responsible, improve their listening skills, and gain self-confidence while making new friends. Each theater class and musical production attracts students from multiple public and private schools as well as from home school settings. The Spring 2023 production of "SHREK JR" featured 62 student actors who attend 27 different schools or are home schooled. THT takes great pride in exceeding the commonly low expectations for youth theater and audiences are repeatedly impressed by the high-quality sets, costumes, lighting, sound, and talent level of the student performers. BRANCHING OUT
THT earned a full grant to purchase the building at 910 Washington St in downtown Manitowoc in July of 2019. The expansive THT volunteer base - including 175+ staff, board members, community arts enthusiasts, youth and families – completed over 5,000 hours of labor to demolish and revitalize this amazing new youth arts center. Grand Opening was June 1, 2021. For more information, please visit www.treehousetheater.com

Before we keep painting the town pink… we’re taking a moment to quiet everything else.
No color. No sparkle. No distractions.
Just this cast. This crew. This director.
And the kind of talent that doesn’t need anything extra to shine.
There’s something powerful about seeing it stripped back—just pure dedication, heart, and the countless hours poured into every line, every step, every detail.
We are in absolute awe of what these young performers and leaders have created together.
The pink will be back. The energy will be loud.
But right now… we’re just grateful to witness the magic. 🖤

In December, we’re pulling from the archives to share a classic story that shows how a friendship can change everything. ✨
In February, we’ll tell a tale about a cranky hero who discovers where he truly belongs.
And next April we’re reaching new heights and seizing new dreams, finding our strength by standing together. ✊

Strengthened by community partnership, Treehouse Theater (THT) has been proactively supporting youth education and development through quality performing arts programming since 2012. Working to “keep the arts alive,” THT offers year-round theater education classes, specialty workshops, and performance opportunities EXCLUSIVELY for youth between ages 4-18. This sole focus on youth developments makes THT a unique nonprofit community arts organization in Northeast Wisconsin. Once limited to Manitowoc and Two Rivers, families now come from Valders, Sheboygan, Howards Grove, Brillion, Denmark, and Green Bay to participate in programming and join in the audiences.
Formed in the living room of our Executive Director, Karen Rohrer, this non-profit organization strives to challenge and inspire youth to explore creativity, become more confident and responsible, develop a strong work ethic, and recognize the true value of open communication and teamwork. We believe that all these qualities lead to strong, contributing community members who are well prepared for future success!
In 7 1/2 years, Treehouse has produced 22 high-quality local musicals, won awards at six of the past seven Junior Theater Festival national competitions, designed and built their first rehearsal studio on Franklin St, launched Acting Academy classes, hosted multiple specialty arts workshops, recently purchased their own building at 910 Washington St and leading the full revitalization project, PLUS worked numerous fundraising events to sustain their mission.
Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is the only full-time staff member. With an eye for blending business needs with artistic vision, Karen serves as Producer for each musical and is responsible for overall quality assurance, financial oversight, community relations/impact, fund development, marketing, volunteer coordination, plus facility and costume rentals. Thirty-three adults and youth comprise four operating committees; each meets regularly with Mrs. Rohrer to ensure group consideration for programming and to document policies needed for a consistent, sustainable organization.
Treehouse provides programming for interested youth and our scholarships ensure that all interested students can participate. Continued community support is VITAL to our success.
