Ostrichfest

Ostrichfest An intimate gathering of friends, family, people we kind of know, some folks we wish weren't there (between you and me), and a few drunken stragglers!

For those of you unfamiliar with our little shindig, OstrichFest is an intimate gathering of our closest friends and family, people we kind of know, some folks we honestly wish weren't there (between you and me), and more than a few drunken stragglers. At its core, the Fest is about getting together with a few hundred of your closest somebodies, having several dozen jell-o shots and your fair shar

e of beer, playing some games, listening to some great local live music, and eating a bunch of ostrich burgers, brats, and other unidentifiable ostrich parts (we recommend saving the latter for after you've had a few beers). Of course, for the culinary cowards in the crowd, the Fest also provides plenty to eat besides ostrich and even things to drink that don’t contain alcohol (we’re embarrassed to say). Oh, and get this, it’s also a family affair—past attendees have ranged from newborns to great grandmas (no joke)—so bring the whole clan and let’s do this thing. See you in June(ish) 2014. Until then, get out there and help us spread the bird!

Future ostrichfest activity? And found one trying to blend in, living among the tourists at Torres del Paine National Park. Can't fool an ostrich enthusiast however.

So, I met this ostrich out in the wild ... oddly it seemed to be giving me a bit of the stink eye. I asked a traveling companion, "want to sneak up on that bu**er?" He agreed. Taking cover behind a shrub, I laced up my shoes preparing for pursuit while my friend got his camera ready. Just as I reached top speed, I stepped in a hole, face-planted, and skid across the dry plains. The ostrich, initially frightened, stopped, turned around, and stared. It knew the level of idiot it was dealing with and it need not be afraid. My friend was funny, he said "I'm looking through my camera ... there's the ostrich ... there's mike ... there's the ostrich ... where'd mike go?" Moral of the story: ostriches are to be celebrated, not chased!
