Later this afternoon long time member Julia Wright will be at the gallery.
"Through out the years, I have worked in various fine craft media. I got very good at knotting and creating huge wall hangings which created the bulk of my first fine art pieces. I then incorporated weaving into my macramés and did abstracted versions of mountains and streams. I inserted feathers into macramés and began experimenting with creating feather wall pieces. One year The City of Manitou held a Mardi Gras (pre-Carnivale). I decided to try my hand at making masks. They were a huge success. My feather work is what I exert my creative juices on to this day. All my masks and jewelry have a suede backing. The masks have an elastic strap, making them very comfortable to wear, and yet durable."

Ray Jordan - "Art in some form has been part of my life since I was a small child. My grandfather was a master carpenter and he shared his creative spirit and love of sawdust with me at a very early age. In high school I took every art class that was offered along with wood shop and I explored various artful endeavors (quilting, silk-screening, printing press, sketching, painting, etc.) creating things for my home, family and friends. More recently I added acrylics and began producing colorful, 3D, themed pieces adorned with intricate scroll saw cutouts. Finding this artistic voice provided the focus, motivation and confidence to share my art with the outside world."

From our newest member, Suzy Gardner - "The daughter of an artist and in a family of artists, I've drawn, colored, cut, pasted, whittled, sculpted, soldered, molded, knotted, painted, and created from whatever was available for as long as I can remember. I started making jewelry when I was 10. A life long lover of sparkly things, this is a dangerous pastime for me ;) !"

"I named my company Dream Follower. Why? Our lives get so busy and we hustle just to get through our daily chore list. I came to a time in my life when I realized that I still had dreams I wanted to follow and needed to prioritize them if they were ever to be. Hence, Dream Follower. Follow your Dreams, they know the way."

If you haven't seen Suzy's jewelry in person yet, stop by today and check it out and meet the maker herself. Suzy has been a part of our Summer art festival for many years and she's a welcome addition to the co-op. Her jewelry is amazing.

Leslie White at Commonwheel -
"Nature and Creativity uplift the soul. The challenge is to experience the sublime in both the ancient and the fleeting, the natural and what has been touched by humans. When I create a painting, I can’t help but get a detailed sense of the subject. My goal is to share those moments of epiphany and to inspire the viewer to take a closer look also at the astonishing beauty and diversity around us all. "

From artist Claudia Dimidik - "My passion for color and the uncontrollable liquid media has led to a focus with pigments mixed with some type of liquid. Watercolors, alcohol ink, paint and even tea can be found in my works. So in essence, I am a water media artist in a nontraditional sense."

Her colorful creations can be found in the main gallery at Commonwheel.

Commonwheel Artists Artist of the Month for June is ⭐ Maggie Quinn - Colorado Springs has been home to Maggie Quinn for her entire life. California College of Art, CU Boulder, and Colorado Mountain College provided the educational foundation for her study of the arts. Classical drawing and painting, jewelry design, photography, and pottery were major courses of study. Travels and field expedition study with top ceramicists from around the globe have added a sense of current influence to her work today. Porcelain and wood-fire are continual media and process that she brings to her gallery. The camaraderie and risk that comes from firing clay to temperatures of 2,300°F or more, in a hand fed wood burning kiln, has embedded the lifestyle of the potter into her being. Forms in nature serve as a muse, all media the platform, while ceramics remain the passion of her creation. Original hand drawn sepia ink images are often subject matter for her ceramic canvases.

Look for Maggie's creations in the main gallery and in our June showcase, "The Woods". 👑
