The uber talented Nicole Copel today at Commonwheel Artists....
"After earning my MFA in Ceramics from Kansas State University, I relocated to La Veta, Colorado where I have worked in my studio for over a decade and owned and operated an art gallery. I am an adjunct art instructor at Colorado State University in Pueblo, Colorado and also teach kid’s classes, workshops and private lessons. "
"The potter’s wheel is a tool that I use to create forms that are then frequently altered through removing areas of clay to enhance movement and flowing
lines. I use a variety of firing techniques and have most recently built a soda kiln. The soda ash and water solution sprayed into the kiln at high temperature is evident on the ceramic ware and creates a glaze sheen, directional markings from the spray, and sometimes a slightly raised orange peel-like surface.
