It now has been over a decade since that very scary day, a day that made quite an impression on me. I found myself in a position where I was able to truly save a mans life, and do such by literally carrying him into the Emergency Room while he blue and very heavy. Several occassions in my life now that I can say that the difference I made was only due to my training during the more formative years of my life. Though I often embellished as a child, due to feelings that the color Purple did not convey just how great I was, I would lie or story tell claiming I a Black Belt early in certain circles. While a 13 year old pimple faced teen, Martial Arts, grappling and sparring with some much larger than myself Adult Men and Women has a whole lot of benefits when trained correctly of course. For me, in my life, My own Head Spared from splitting open more than once. Only because of being taught how to fall properly, did I instictively tuck chin and not die in Hells Kitchen one Winter Night a couple years back. Having had spent 3-4 nights a week training at Long Island Ninjitsu Centers of Allie Alberigo, learning the mechanics of the human body, through forms, throws, sweeps and such, even at nearly 20 years since my last class, much becomes instinctive and like "riding a bike" I was able to carry this "Brick S**t House" of a Young Man/Athlete, he happen to be a noticably larger than myself kinda guy, but I half hip throw kinda carried him in when he needed be saved and time of the essence. I was able to successfully save his life in acting as I did. A highlight of ones life typically be making or creating life, and having that a yet for myself, I say my actions in saving his be my Apex. And like my selfish giving, it makes me feel good to have helped another in anyway I can, at my choice and effort. If you ever are in a situation where you can save a life or help someone, do just that because it is what you would want for yourself or anyone else. No reason other than that. I need not say how poor of a look when ones saying "remember that time I saved your life..." in trying to manipulate someone or get something out of them, practical extortion.... mhmmm.
At 37 years old I cannot stress enough the importance of our independence as people. Taking responsability for and being accountable for our actions. Two things that EVERYONE has control over in day to day living, ATTITUDE and EFFORT. What we can and do have control of are these, our Attitude and Effort. No matter of where you live, how much money you do or do not have, no matter what nationality, religion, complexion, no matter of age or where you are from, who raised or did not raise you, attendence at school, University or Not, or which one, all the variables of any given life make for so many differences in our society. But when we focus on less labeling, differentiating, less of the separating, and pursuit of "win WIN" practices that only divide US and in the end short change US as individuals and as a Whole. Dare to not so much sabotage our society in these extremes, but TRY, and share to GOODS. Instead of strategic omission, or only sharing the things that would benefit you, share what you find pleasant, or helpful, or enjoyable. Not the crap you do not want. Even if it may be considered to be better when compared to none, or maybe in comparison newer than another, inappropriately switching out and doing things that you have to over rationalize and explain away probably not at all correct,
Especially in retrospect I constantly learn from analyzing my past experiences and with applying later learned understandings and knowledge, we can learn a whole lot from a class we took a long long time ago.
