On this day, September 15, 1938, the newly renovated Wareham Theatre opened its doors! This was a pivotal moment in our history ⬇️

When deciding which architectural style to model our renovation after, we basically had two choices: Select the more ornate style from the 1910 renovation or the more streamlined style from the 1938 renovation. After consulting with the Kansas State Historic Preservation Office, they said we'd have to remove the neon sign if selecting 1910 as our inspiration.

Of course, we couldn't do that! Our neon sign is such a beloved symbol of Manhattan, so it was an easy choice to commit to the 1938 Streamline Moderne style and keep the sign.

The sign was one of the first items removed from the building when construction started last November, and it will be one of the last items installed when construction concludes next fall. She'll be back stronger, brighter, and bolder than ever!

Help us bring our iconic sign back and donate today 💜
