📍🇷🇺 Baskunchak is the saltiest lake in Russia - 80% of the country's salt is extracted here. It is now part of the Bogdo-Baskunchak Nature Reserve, so travelers often combine a visit to the lake and the park.

For some time the reservoir was famous among the racers: from 1960 to 1963 a 20 km long track was organized here, where competitions were held to set speed records.

However, the track had to be closed. In spite of this, Soviet racers were able to set 19 world records during the couple of years of the track's existence!

Tips for tourists:

☀️ The optimal time to visit is from May to October. Then the lake gains water and you can swim in it.

🛻 Around lake Baskunchak you can take off-road rides, visit sanatorium and even take a mud bath.

🏊🏼‍♂️ Swimming in the lake is advised leisurely and not to dive, the salt will strongly corrode
the eyes.

📍🇷🇺 Kucherlinskoye is one of the most picturesque lakes in the Altai. The name is based on the local word "kuchurlu", which means solonchak (a type of soil with high salt content).

The water in the lake has an unusual turquoise color, and it is surrounded by steep rocky cliffs. There are Upper, Lower and Big Kucherla Lakes. The Big lake is 5 km long.

The water body has a legend - its master is the spirit Kol-Eezi, who lives in the water and loves solitude. To chase away travelers, the spirit scares them with a bull's cry.

In addition, there are many species of underwater inhabitants.The lakes are inhabited by rainbow trout, grayling (is a sign of clean water), taimen and other fish species. And near the lakes you can meet walking horses.

Interestingly, to get to the lake is difficult - most of the way you have to climb uphill. Usually the hike takes from 2 to 3 days.

Today, on February 23, Russia celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day. The current name of the holiday was given in 1995, but its history goes back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the Red Army was created. In the Soviet Union it was believed that on February 23, 1918, Soviet troops defeated the Germans near Pskov and Narva. These first victories became "the birthday of the Red Army”.

For all Russians this is a very significant date. February 23 is not only a holiday of the military - it is a holiday of real men, defenders of the homeland in the broadest sense. In addition, the Day of Defender of the Fatherland is celebrated by women in the military. By tradition, on this day in Russia are held honouring veterans, laying flowers in memorable places, for example, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located near the walls of the Kremlin. What is more, concerts and fireworks are held in the Russian cities of heroes. Also, Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated in the CIS countries: Belarus, Kirigizia and Tajikistan.

Maslenitsa is an ancient Slavic holiday that dates back to pagan times. The date of the celebration varies from year to year depending on Easter. In 2023 we celebrate Maslenitsa on the week of February 20-26.

Maslenitsa is a cheerful farewell to winter, illuminated by the expectation of spring renewal of nature. Traditionally on Maslenitsa our ancestors burned an effigy stuffed with straw. This ritual symbolized farewell to the cold and hope for a good harvest. Other obligatory attributes of the holiday are sledding, festivities and of course round, ruddy, hot 'bliny' (pancakes in English). Previously they symbolized the sun, which flared up brighter every day, lengthening the days.

🥞 On Maslenitsa ou can eat' bliny' with a variety of fillings. Some people like sweet fillers, such as cottage cheese with jam or honey, others prefer caviar and butter.

Here is the traditional recipe for the most delicious, thinnest 'bliny' cooked with milk 👇

Milk - 500 ml
Eggs - 3 pcs.
Vegetable oil - 1 tbsp. spoon
Flour - 250 g
Sugar - 1 tbsp. spoon
Salt - 1 pinch

1️⃣Mix all the ingredients and beat the 'bliny' dough to a smooth consistency.
2️⃣Heat up a frying pan and brush with oil.
3️⃣Pour a small amount of dough into the center of the pan. Immediately rotate the pan in a circle to distribute the dough over the entire surface.
4️⃣Fry 'bliny' over medium heat on both sides until browned. They are very thin so flip them carefully with a spatula. When it will be fully cooked, remove it from the pan and brush with butter to make them tender.

Fyodor Chaliapin was born on February 13, 1873. His work had a huge impact on world opera art. We picked up some interesting facts demonstrating his extraordinary talent.

🔹 In 1918, Chaliapin was the first to receive the title of People's Artist of the Republic.

🔹 He was the leading soloist of the two main theaters of the country - the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky.

🔹 Chaliapin communicated with the great artists of that time: Vasily Polenov and the Vasnetsov brothers, Isaac Levitan, Valentin Serov, Konstantin Korovin and Mikhail Vrubel.

🔹 His contemporaries joked: "There are three miracles in Moscow: the Tsar Bell, the Tsar Cannon and the Tsar Bass - Fyodor Chaliapin."

🔹 The singer's voice is a high bass or bass-baritone, of a light timbre. Chaliapin had excellent diction, and he was heard even in the most distant places from the stage.

🔹 Chaliapin's talent was not limited to musical and acting activities: he drew a lot, was engaged in painting and sculpture. Many portraits, self-portraits, drawings and caricatures of his work have been preserved.

🔹 He was one of the first to make up his hands and even his body. In the image of Boris Godunov, wrinkles and gray hair appeared, and Chaliapin's Mephistopheles in Milan became a sensation.

📍🇷🇺 The Kungur Ice Cave is one of the most famous attractions of Perm region and the whole Siberia. According to the new plan, the length of the passages is 8153 meters, where only 2000 meters are equipped for tourists. Scientists believe that the cave is about 10-12 thousand years old. During this time, the water managed to form a chain of 50 underground halls and grottoes, as well as 70 purest underground lakes formed at the bottom of the cave.

The condition of the ice in the cave depends on the temperature regime. In winter they "freeze it out" - they open special ventilation holes. In summer, on the contrary, they close them. Many grottoes of the Kungur Ice Cave are decorated with ice crystals of needle and tray forms. The best time to see the most beautiful and bizarre of them is from February to April.

Another uniqueness of the cave are the organ pipes. They got their name because of the constant sounds produced by the air passing through the shafts. In combination with massive grottoes and skillfully made lighting, they make a truly fantastic impression.

📍🇷🇺 Кунгурская ледяная пещера — одна из самых известных достопримечательностей Пермского края и всей Сибири. Согласно новому плану, длина ходов составляет 8153 метра, при этом оборудовано для посещения туристами только 2000 метров. Ученые считают, что возраст пещеры около 10-12 тысяч лет. За это время вода сумела образовать цепочку из 50 подземных залов и гротов, а также на дне пещеры образовалось 70 чистейших подземных озер.

Состояние льда в пещере зависит от температурного режима. Зимой ее «вымораживают» — открывают специальные вентиляционные отверстия. На лето их, напротив, закрывают.

Многие гроты Кунгурской ледяной пещеры украшены ледяными кристаллами игловидной и лотковый формы. Лучшее время, чтобы увидеть самые красивые и причудливые из них – с февраля по апрель.

Еще одна уникальность пещеры — органные трубы. Свое название они получили за постоянно издаваемые звуки, вызванные проходящим сквозь шахты воздухом. В сочетании с массивными гротами и искусно сделанным освещением они производят поистине фантастическое впечатление.

📍🇷🇺 The Shantar Islands are an ideal place to shoot incredible adventure films. The water glows in the dark with fantastic blue light. And bowhead whales dissect the salt water with their huge tails.

Shantars are an archipelago in the western part of the Sea of Okhotsk, which consists of 15 islands, and is also part of the territory of Khabarovsk region. For almost 8 months a year the islands are encased in ice, and they get rid of the ice shell only by the beginning of August. On the islands, the compass needle constantly turns clockwise, because the area has the strongest geomagnetic anomaly.

The resident of the archipelago is a brown bear. Living conditions for bears here are close to ideal: coastal waters pamper with plenty of fish, islands - berry bushes, and seals resting on the rocks in the sun, which are the favorite food of feline hunters.

Here you can also observe the natural phenomenon "suloy". It occurs when two currents meet. The observer sees it in the agitation of waters. It is dangerous for small vessels, the waves can be high. Ships passing such places experience unpleasant ship motions.

📍🇷🇺 Шантарские острова — идеальное место для съемки невероятных приключенческих фильмов. Вода светится в темноте фантастическим голубым светом. А гренландские киты рассекают соленую воду огромными хвостами.

Шантары — это архипелаг в западной части Охотского моря, который состоит из 15 островов, а также входит в состав территории Хабаровского края. Почти 8 месяцев в году острова закованы в лед, а избавляется от ледяного панциря только к началу августа. На островах стрелка компаса постоянно крутится по часовой стрелке, потому что в районе сильнейшая геомагнитная аномалия.

Жителем архипелага является бурый медведь. Условия существования для мишек здесь близки к идеальным: прибрежные воды балуют большим количеством рыбы, острова — ягодными кустарниками, а на скалах отдыхают на солнце тюлени, которые являются излюбленной пищей косолапых охотников.

Здесь также можно наблюдать природное явление «сулой». Оно возникает при встрече двух течений. Наблюдатель видит его в волнении вод. Оно опасно для маломерных судов, волны могут быть высокими. Суда, проходя такие места, испытывают неприятную качку.

One of the important directions in the work of the Agency is taking care of memorial sites abroad. It is implemented in accordance with the Decree of the President of Russia dated September 6, 2008, №1315. We are talking about burial places that have historical and memorial significance for Russia: memorial and general cemeteries, individual plots, burials, individual graves in general cemeteries, outside cemeteries and in chapels, with the exception of military and new burials.

The Agency has criteria for selecting burial sites. First of all, the contribution of the buried persons to science, culture, art, spiritual life of Russia and other countries, to strengthening relations between Russia and foreign states is evaluated.

Одно из важных направлений в работе Агентства — забота о мемориальных объектах за рубежом — реализуется в соответствии с Указом Президента России от 6 сентября 2008 года №1315. Речь идет о местах погребения, которые имеют для России историко-мемориальное значение: мемориальные и общие кладбища, отдельные участки, захоронения, индивидуальные могилы на общих кладбищах, вне кладбищ и в часовнях, за исключением воинских и новых захоронений.

У Агентства есть критерии отбора мест погребения. Прежде всего оценивается вклад захороненных лиц в науку, культуру, искусство, духовную жизнь России и других стран, в укрепление отношений между Россией и зарубежными государствами.
