【External merchandise trade📊】According to the external merchandise trade statistics released today (June 25), the values of Hong Kong’s total exports and imports of goods in May 2026 both recorded year-on-year increases, at 40.8% and 42.0% respectively. Exports to most major markets registered notable growth.
For the first five months of 2026 as a whole, the value of total exports of goods increased by 36.2% over the same period in 2025. Concurrently, the value of imports of goods increased by 39.6%.
Looking ahead, the still-vibrant global demand for AI-related electronic products should continue to support Hong Kong’s merchandise trade performance.

Hong Kong bartender John Patrick P**n of Mius has been crowned the 2026 Diageo World Class Hong Kong & Macau Bartender of the Year after an unforgettable performance in Macau. Despite suffering a hand injury moments before his final presentation, P**n returned to the stage and successfully completed six cocktails within the competition time limit, impressing judges with his creativity and composure.

After finishing as runner-up in 2025, P**n spent the past year refining his techniques and pushing his craft to new heights. His winning cocktails incorporated surprise ingredients such as black garlic and preserved plum, showcasing the innovation and resilience that define Hong Kong’s world-class bar scene.

The director of the office, Ms Elania Luk, provided a comprehensive overview of Hong Kong’s development – from its role as a dynamic global business center and aviation hub to its East-meets-West cross-cultural landscape and prominence as a higher education destination.

The event featured an exhibit of curated paintings commissioned by the Social Welfare Department under the Arts Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities to illustrate the potential of persons with disabilities in artistic activities.

Hong Kong’s higher education sector continues to shine on the global stage!

According to the latest QS World University Rankings 2027, all eight University Grants Committee-funded universities have achieved impressive results, with five institutions remaining among the world’s top 100 universities.

The University of Hong Kong maintained its strong position at 11th globally, while the Chinese University of Hong Kong climbed 14 places to 18th, marking the first time that two Hong Kong universities have ranked among the world’s top 20. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology rose to 33rd, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University entered the global top 50 for the first time, ranking 50th.

These outstanding achievements reflect Hong Kong’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and internationalisation, reinforcing the city’s position as a leading global education hub and a magnet for talent from around the world.
