🎉 Let’s give it up for our fin-tastic July Volunteer of the Month — Jacob! 🐟👏 In just six months of volunteering at the Roundhouse, Jacob has become such a reliable member of our team with over 80 volunteer hours. His professionalism and enthusiasm make him a wonderful helping hand and help create a special experience for our guests. Jacob loves sharing his knowledge at our touch tank and showing our visitors the amazing fish and marine life we have at the Roundhouse, especially as a prospective marine bio college student. He’s always happy to connect with our guests, answer questions, and help them discover something new! We’re so grateful for the positive energy Jacob brings to our community. 🌊 That’s a wrap on Summer Camp! ☀️

What a summer it has been at the Roundhouse Aquarium! From hands-on activities and marine life discoveries to beach adventures, our campers filled their days with curiosity, learning, and plenty of fun.

A huge thank you to all of our incredible volunteer counselors who helped make this summer possible. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm made a meaningful difference in every camper’s experience. 💙

And to all of our campers—we hope you had as much fun as we did! We can’t wait to welcome you back and meet even more young explorers next year.

🌊 Coastal Cleanup Day 2026 is coming! 🌊

Join the Roundhouse Aquarium team for the 42nd Annual Coastal Cleanup Day as we team up with Heal the Bay and the California Coastal Commission to help keep our shoreline clean—from summit to sea!

📍 Manhattan Beach Pier
⏰ Check-in begins at 8:45 AM
🧤 Cleanup activities run until 12:00 PM

Online registration is coming soon! Stay tuned for more details on how to sign up.

When you arrive, check in at the base of the Manhattan Beach Pier, then head to the north side of the beach for the safety talk and supplies station. Before you leave, bring your trash and completed data cards back to the weigh station so we can record your contributions and submit our cleanup data to the California Coastal Commission.

Donations are welcomed and help us continue providing educational events to our community and students, while keeping the Roundhouse Aquarium free to visitors year-round.

Join the OTS Roundhouse Aquarium for a special free, all-ages presentation at the Manhattan Beach Library on Wednesday, September 2, from 6:00–7:00 PM.

Learn how the Marine Mammal Care Center rescues, rehabilitates, and releases marine mammals—and how each patient can provide valuable insight into the changing health of our ocean.

Hear from Dave Bader, Chief Operations & Education Officer at the Marine Mammal Care Center, and get an inside look at the challenges facing Southern California’s marine ecosystems.

Summer at the Roundhouse Aquarium is filled with curiosity, discovery, and plenty of fun! 🌊☀️

Our campers spend their days exploring marine life, taking part in hands-on science activities, discovering the beach, and learning alongside our amazing counselors. Every activity is designed to encourage questions, build confidence, and help children develop a deeper connection with the ocean.

But beyond the activities and the science, it’s the smiles, friendships, and moments of discovery that make Summer Camp so special. These are experiences that can inspire a child to keep asking questions and caring about the world around them long after camp is over.

Meet the moon sea jelly! 🌙🪼

With their translucent, bell-shaped bodies and gentle pulsing movements, moon jellies seem to float effortlessly through the water. Look closely and you may notice four horseshoe-shaped structures in the center of their bell—one of their most recognizable features.

These graceful animals are a beautiful reminder of the incredible diversity found beneath the surface.

Sea stars are some of the ocean’s most fascinating animals. ⭐🌊

Did you know that many sea stars can regenerate lost arms? Even more incredible, some species can regenerate much of their body from a single arm, as long as part of the central disk remains attached.

From tidepools to deeper waters, sea stars play an important role in healthy marine ecosystems.
