Pointillism → Another great "Early Finisher" project and/or a full unit for your art curriculum!
These examples are from my High School Art 2 students. I present this project as a semester-long side project that serves as their "Early Finisher" assignment. Students are introduced to the project at the beginning of the semester, and it is due at the end of the term.
They work on it whenever they finish an assignment or project early, when there is a substitute teacher, or during makeup days. It is a graded project, and if students need additional time beyond class, it becomes homework (the only homework I assign!).
Throughout the unit, students learn about Impressionism and Pointillism, with a focus on Seurat. They practice stippling and value techniques in both color and black-and-white, select a portrait reference (no internet photos!), use the grid method for drawing, and then begin creating their artwork. We use fine-tip Sharpies and Micron pens for the final pieces.
This unit is available on TPT and is completely ready to teach, no prep required on your part! If you'd like the link sent directly to your DMs, comment "Pointillism" and we'll send it over!
