Pointillism → Another great "Early Finisher" project and/or a full unit for your art curriculum!

These examples are from my High School Art 2 students. I present this project as a semester-long side project that serves as their "Early Finisher" assignment. Students are introduced to the project at the beginning of the semester, and it is due at the end of the term.

They work on it whenever they finish an assignment or project early, when there is a substitute teacher, or during makeup days. It is a graded project, and if students need additional time beyond class, it becomes homework (the only homework I assign!).

Throughout the unit, students learn about Impressionism and Pointillism, with a focus on Seurat. They practice stippling and value techniques in both color and black-and-white, select a portrait reference (no internet photos!), use the grid method for drawing, and then begin creating their artwork. We use fine-tip Sharpies and Micron pens for the final pieces.

This unit is available on TPT and is completely ready to teach, no prep required on your part! If you'd like the link sent directly to your DMs, comment "Pointillism" and we'll send it over!

That's a wrap on the 2025–26 school year, and what a year it was!

Art Teacher Fusion has been an incredible adventure with my best friend. We've had so much fun collaborating, refining our resources, and creating beautiful art with our students. Even though we're no longer teaching at the same school, are separated by 1,900 miles, and are in different seasons of life, not a day went by without us communicating, collaborating, and creating together.

Amanda is enjoying the joys of new motherhood with her beautiful baby boy, and Michele has just completed her 17th year in the high school classroom. While we're both looking forward to a summer of rest, relaxation, and time with our families, we're also excited to keep collaborating and developing new art projects and resources for our classrooms... and yours!

Stay tuned for what's next!

Happy summer, everyone!

POP Art is our "Early Finisher," semester side project, and students LOVE it!

Its so simple in its expectations and the subject matter is fun and engaging for students. I assign this project at the beginning of the semester and we spend a few days getting it started. Student choose a Pop Art image to recreate on large 18"x20" drawing paper using the grid. Once drawn out, students erase the grid and color their work in with marker and/or colored pencils. Thats it!

As an early finisher, or side, project students work on this throughout the semester, whenever they finish an assignment early, when I have a sub, when they finish a project early, etc. It's agreat way to ensure everyone always has something to work on throughout the semester.

I do grade it at the end, and students who don't have a ton of class time to work because they maybe are a slower worker, take it home as homework.

Here are some results from this year! If you'd like this complete TPT lesson (no work on your part!) Comment POP below and we’ll send you a DM or you can find the lesson here-->

Here's a fun student teacher or end-of-the-year teacher gift idea!!!

My husband cut a 2x4 into the shape of a pencil, drilled holes in the top, and sanded it smooth. Then I added the paint, personalized name, and ribbon to finish it off.

Now my student teacher has her own custom pencil holder nameplate to display on the desk in her very first classroom. A simple, meaningful diy gift to celebrate the start of an exciting new chapter! Good luck Ms. Charp! Thanks for a great semester!

This is how my Art 2 students are ending the year, and I am absolutely in LOVE with the results!

We call this unit Abstract Water Reflections. Students created these stunning paintings using acrylic paint on 16" x 20" canvases—which they were all thrilled to receive!

Before beginning their final pieces, students spent time building their acrylic painting skills through a variety of technique studies, including opaque vs. transparent paint application, value blending, color blocking, underpainting, and more.

For inspiration, students either photographed their own water reflections or selected an image from my personal photo collection—no internet photos allowed. They began with an underpainting, used a four-quadrant grid to map out their composition, and then layered their painted shapes on top.

Abstract Water Reflections is a great subject for teaching acrylic painting techniques because it’s both forgiving and incredibly impressive! It gives students the opportunity to experiment, take risks, and practice skill while building confidence in their painting abilities.

We still have one more week before summer break, so I’m expecting a few more masterpieces to come in. But I was just too excited about the work so far not to share it! 💙🌊🎨

Artist Trading Cards have become a student-favorite tradition at the end of the school year, and a great way to showcase skills earned over the course of that time.

For this assignment, I ask students to create 5 (or more) ATCs. 1 is for them to keep. 1 is for me to keep (swipe to see the last photo), and 3 (or more) to trade! Students can create anything they like in any medium, but the cards have to look like finished "mini-masterpieces".

The trade is a fun collaborative performance—and secretly, I love that I get a collection to keep for remembrance, too! I tell my students that I need a masterpiece from each of them for when they become famous artists someday. It's such a joy to look back through the cards and remember all the wonderful students who created them.

This lesson is available on TPT. Let me know if you'd like a LINK!

Check out this year's colorful Fauvism-inspired landscapes by our beginning Art 1 high school artists!

After learning about the Fauvist art movement and its bold use of bright, unrealistic color, students created mixed media landscapes based on photos they took themselves. They sketched their compositions, painted them with vibrant tempera paint colors, and then used chalk pastel to add value, blending, details, and expressive texture.

It was exciting to see students experiment with color, take creative risks, and transform everyday scenes into bold, eye-catching works of art.
