Oskar Schlemmer (German, 1883-1943) was born on this day.
"Triadic Ballet", 1924. Here costumed actors transformed into geometrical representations of the human body. Schlemmer described it as a "party of form and color".
A painter, sculptor, designer and choreographer, Schlemmer was associated with the Bauhaus school. In 1933 his work was labeled 'degenerate' by the N***s. He was forced to resign and had his paintings displayed at the infamous exhibition. He spent the last decade of his life in internal exile.
