Congratulations to Metz Middle School Music!!

Metz Music Makes History!
Congratulations to the students and music educators at Grace E. Metz Middle School for an outstanding performance at this year's Music in the Parks competition at Kings Dominion. For the first time in school history, Metz earned top honors in chorus, band, and orchestra. The Chorus received Superior ratings from both judges, placed 1st in the Women's Choir division, and was named the top middle school choir of the day. The ensemble also earned the highest overall score of the competition across all middle and high school bands, choirs, and orchestras.

The Advanced Band received Superior ratings, placed 1st in its division, and was recognized as the top middle school band of the day, while the Intermediate Band also earned a 1st-place finish.

The Orchestra received Superior ratings, placed 1st in the String Orchestra division, and was named the top middle school orchestra of the day.

These remarkable achievements reflect the talent, dedication, and hard work of our students and music educators. Congratulations, Metz, on this historic accomplishment!

Now that we have closed our 2025-2026 season we would like to again thank our friends and masterful featured artists Thomas Pandolfi, Doreen Ketchens, and Andrew Sords for joining our orchestra during what was truly a memorable season! Thank you to our audience for sharing this year with us, members of our orchestra, Maestro Villani, and to the staff at the Hylton Performing Arts Center for taking care of us in their wonderful venue.

Congratulations to our principal (and) violist 😊!

Natalie Short will take over as Haydon’s principal, effective July 1. Short currently serves as assistant principal at Haydon, a role she’s held since July 2023.

Four young violinists were selected to participate in a master class with soloist Andrew Sords on Friday afternoon. These budding performers received individual time playing for and learning from this virtuoso player and teacher at no cost, courtesy of the MSO’s Mission Fund. Bravi, tutti!

Andrew will be performing Richard Strauss’s Violin Concerto with the MSO on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30.

The MSO presents our 2026 season closer: "German Masters!" We welcome back celebrated violinist Andrew Sords to perform Strauss' "Violin Concerto in D minor." Also on the program are Mendelssohn's "'Scottish' Symphony" and Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor."
