CONGRATULATIONS to Artists, Jett Green, Damian Smith and Kathleen Storm, who are exhibiting at Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum until September 19, 2026. The 2025 Schaefer Portrait Challenge traveled from Maui and opened at the state art museum on Friday, Jan 2 with a formal opening reception on Jan 3.

All THREE artists were recognized with awards:

Jett Green, People’s Choice Award

Damian Smith, Artists’ Choice Award

Kathleen Storm, Recognition Award by the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and will become part of the state’s permanent collection.

A prestigious, signature exhibition of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, the statewide juried Schaefer Portrait Challenge exhibition has been held as a triennial since 2003. This year’s exhibition included 40 artists chosen from across Hawaii.
