Congratulations to Joëlle C. Perz for being chosen as Blue Water Institute 2026 Featured Artist. Her image “Loving the flow and the stars below” has been chosen for this year’s featured poster for the 7th Annual Blue Water Film Festival running March 19–22, 2026, in La Jolla, California, to coincide with UN – World Water Day (March 22).

Presented by the Blue Water Institute, the four-day event showcases a dynamic slate of features, shorts, and animated films, highlighting powerful storytelling at the intersection of water, environment, innovation, and human impact. The 2026 program includes 31 films in competition comprising 10 feature films, 15 short films, and 6 animated works representing filmmakers from around the world.

Some highlights of our Sunday event, Conversation with Dick. We did our best to WOW Dick and our guests for a memorable evening honoring Dick Nelson and his legacy of color, art and teaching. The event was supported by the artists exhibiting alongside Dick for the current Luminosity show.

We gathered monthly, had homework, projects and critiques for over a year. Our focus was to learn the alchemy of color and luminosity. of storytelling and art
with Dick Nelson.

After an intimate reception and featured talk,
mix & mingle through the golden hour in the gallery,
Try your hand at Tri-Hue watercolor,
view never before seen paintings
by Dick Nelson,
with the artist himself.

Two of our exhibiting Luminosity artists, Kathleen Storm and Ann Wittenbrock lead a conversation with Dick Nelson about his life’s work in art, education, and innovation, as well as the people and events that inspired him along the way.

Dick Nelson
has had a long and illustrious career in the arts
as a teacher and artist, who has invested himself
in the arts of Maui since moving to the island in 1975
as the Director of the Wailea Arts Center.
From his 22 years teaching art at Punahou School, through his summer sabbatical at Yale University with Josef Albers, in over 73 years of teaching, Dick has had a tremendous impact on thousands of students and artists in Hawaii and beyond.

Ann Wittenbrock
is an artist, teacher of Tri-Hue techniques in luminosity,
and a retired veterinarian on Maui.

Kathleen Storm
is a Maui artist, teacher at the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center, and a former MainStreet director that utilized arts programing for economic development.
