Today, we’re delighted to introduce one of the newest artists joining Adaptations Dance Theater—and celebrate her birthday! 🎉✨
Happy Birthday, Rachel ʻIhilani Berman! Join us in welcoming Rachel to the ADT family and celebrating this remarkable Maui-grown artist.
A dancer based in Kēōkea, Rachel began her contemporary dance training with many of the island’s pioneering artists, including Jill Okura, Helen Barrow, David Ward, André Morissette, Vanessa Cerrito, Virginia Holte, and Kathleen McKeon. She spent many summers training at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, where she first met ADT Artistic Director Hallie Hunt, before continuing her studies and performing with renowned choreographers including Donald McKayle, Sarah Michelson, and luciana achugar.
After nearly eight years in New York City, Rachel returned home to Maui in 2019. Since then, she has created site-responsive work through self-directed solo installations at the Schaefer International Gallery and collaborated with choreographer Karli Jo List on Maui Public Art Corps’ Hui Moʻolelo community histories project.
We’re honored to welcome Rachel to ADT and to share her thoughtful, miraculous artistry with you in Bring it Home: Prism.

Welcome, Bret Easterling!
We’re thrilled to welcome guest choreographer Bret Easterling to Maui and into the ADT studio for Bring it Home: Prism!
Bret is a q***r multidisciplinary artist, director, and educator whose work centers movement as a tool for connection, inquiry, and collective experience. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Bret was a formative member of Gallim Dance and a prominent performer and contributor with the internationally renowned Batsheva Dance Company.
As a choreographer and collaborative artist, his work has been presented at institutions and festivals across the country, including Jacob’s Pillow, Lincoln Center, Baryshnikov Arts Center, REDCAT, LA Dance Project, and Dance Camera West. He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of BEMOVING, an LGBTQ+ nonprofit supporting the creation, presentation, and sustainability of dance.
We’re so excited to have Bret creating a brand-new work on seven of our resident and guest dance artists — making its world premiere right here on Maui!
Come experience Bret’s new work alongside the rest of Prism as we celebrate ADT’s 13th season with an evening of bold, dynamic, and deeply expressive contemporary dance.

This Friday-Sunday only! Bring It Home presents: Again, Here—a special winter program bringing together three new contemporary dance works by choreographers with deep ties to Maui.

This performance features two returning artists who grew up on the island alongside one resident choreographer, with the works performed by ADT’s resident and guest dance artists. Our first-ever Winter Bring It Home is a celebration of home, return, and community—and what it means to come back, again and again.
