Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp

Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp In Solidarity with Standing Rock & all who resist the black snake worldwide we have a prayer camp on Ramapough Land in Mahwah, NJ.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp is named after the sacred Split Rock site that lays within the mountains of northeastern New Jersey. "Sweet water" is the Lenape meaning for 'Ramapoo' (currently spelled as Ramapough). For generations, members of the Ramapough Lenape Nation have regarded this sacred site as a place of worship and reflection, a tradition that is still kept

dear today. Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp was formed in October of 2016 in solidarity with the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Led by Ramapough Lenape Nation, the camp was erected to educate the public on the impending crises of the AIM and Pilgrim pipelines that threaten the local water supply in our region. Pipeline ruptures cause severe damage to our sacred waters and endanger our families and wildlife. Even with these dangers, Spectra Company is still pushing for the AIM and Pilgrim pipelines to be completed. We call upon all our relations to join us in prayer as we organize to protect our sacred land and waters in a good way. Anushiik (thank you). A'ho

The Ramapough Nation is calling our allies and relatives together to hold prayer and address our common vulnerability to fossil fuel development. We are in solidarity with all people who resist the desecration of Mother Earth. Ramapough translates as Sweet Water in English. On October 30th, the New Moon, we held our first gathering and laid down prayer along with our relatives of the Mohawk, Akwesasne, Taino, Mexica, Blackfoot, Shinecock, Arapaho lineages and Non Native Allies. We prayed for our water, to stop the Spectra/Algonquin Pipeline and in solidarity with Standing Rock Sioux Nation's efforts to protect their water. We are working with existing and ongoing grassroots organizations and protectors to scope the situation on the east coast. We will stand with Standing Rock and all water protectors across the lands...

Moving forward, we hope to keep the conversation going about how to help each other face these issues.

Important deadline to comment before next Tuesday 5/2 on one of the major sites of the Ford Superfund site impacting the. Ramapough Nation for generations. Many advocates are alarmed that it appears to be simply covering over the mess with no real remediation or plan to prevent continued contamination of the entire region's water supply.

The US Justice Department is closing comments on the Superfund OU3 consent decree next Tuesday. You can learn more here: https://cumulis.epa.gov/supercpad/cursites/csitinfo.cfm?id=0200663

In short, they plan to plug Peter's Mine's airshaft and continue to monitor for decades. It is a cheap solution and does not remove the contamination.

Your comment should include:

Subject: Comment on Proposed Consent Decree — U.S., et. al v. Ford Motor Co., et. al., Civil Action No. 2:26–cv–2846

Then in the body:

RE: U.S., et. al v. Ford Motor Co., et. al., Civil Action No. 2:26–cv–2846

Whether you support, oppose, or request changes.
Specific provisions you are commenting on.
Why the decree is insufficient or should be strengthened.
Any local facts, environmental impacts, maps, monitoring data, photos, or community concerns.
A clear ask: “DOJ should not enter the decree unless…” or “DOJ should require…”

If you want to keep it simple and easy, just write:

I am a resident of the area and oppose any remedy that leaves pollution in the ground. This could not only jeopardize local drinking water, but also the adjacent reservoir that delivers drinking water to 3 million New Jersey citizens.

I believe, at the very least, that a pump and treat solution should be implemented to improve the water before it can escape the mine and poison a greater area.
