"Minnesota Burning". I am extremely disturbed by this morning's events. For the first time in my life I channeled this horrible energy into a piece of art.

I haven't posted here in such a long time! Big changes were afoot - I have permanently retired from silversmithing and have taken up painting. Such a different process, yet the same in many ways if I just get out of my own way. I'm learning to be a little kid again, playing with the paints and boards and making a glorious mess! I'm working on composition, form, texture and color and trying not to have a preconceived notion of what I'm trying to go after. Ultimately, it's all about layers for me, just like in my silversmithing.

I am pleased to announce that two of my paintings are included in the 2025 Women's Work Show at Ghostwolf Gallery in Albuquerque! Finally feel confident to show some of the fruits of my labors from the past year of not silversmithing.
Artist Statement:
I used to be a metalsmith, but after a shoulder surgery and subsequent recovery, I HAD to find a new way to create. This has led me to painting, something I had long been interested in but also something I had to teach myself, literally from scratch. I had no idea how to work with these new materials but along the way I realized that working with layers of paint feels a lot like working with metal but in reverse—building up, shaping, and refining until something solid takes form instead of the stamping, gouging and filing I formerly used to reveal the textures in my metal. Learning to use these different materials has been both a challenge and an adventure. While my tools have changed, the process of creating—layer by layer—still feels familiar. As a female artist, I see this new work as an extension of my resilience and reinvention—traits often required of us as we navigate change and redefine ourselves. My art reflects the strength found in transformation and the beauty of embracing new creative paths.

Roadrunner Gallery in Madrid, NM is the first gallery to take a chance on my paintings! It has been an interesting transition from being a metalsmith and working in three dimensions to switching over to a two dimensional flat surface with gooey, liquid-y colors. Definitely a learning curve!

Yep, it's been a long while since I've been active on here; I'm still kind of laying low these days as I continue to heal from my TOS surgery in the summer ( surgery on compressed nerves seems to take forever to calm down and heal). I haven't been feeling very creative lately but have been fooling around a bit with small mixed media paintings - please, I'd love some feedback! Learning a new medium is... interesting... and somewhat frustrating at times because I don't have a definitive stopping point when I feel like I'm done. Definitely unlike creating jewelry when you complete the final steps for a finished piece. So consequently, I seem to just rework everything I try endlessly until I give up feeling a little frustrated at times!
