Experimenting with newly learned collage and mosaic techniques and allowing the process to guide me. 💙

This mosaic collage explores history, memory, identity, and the layers we carry as Black women. Using torn fragments of magazine paper, newspaper, paint, and texture, I’m thinking about how mosaics mirror our lives ... pieces of story, survival, beauty, struggle, and joy assembled into something whole.

The newspaper background speaks to history and the narratives written about us, while the figure exists in the present, reclaiming space and voice beyond those headlines. Her became symbolic, not just adornment, but a representation of the emotional, cultural, and generational weight women often carry with grace. Layer upon layer. Story upon story.

Still figuring this one out as I go, which honestly feels fitting. Healing, identity, and self-discovery rarely arrive complete, they’re built piece by piece.

The energy was in the room...such a powerful mix of women .

Seeing (and hubby) is always a pleasure, and was especially grounding in Chicago. I also had the joy of meeting her sister , whose work is incredible and so full of presence.

I had the chance to meet Candace Hunter, an artist I truly admire, and she was so warm and welcoming. Also connected with and two dope, powerful artists. There was something deeply nourishing about connecting with artists in Chicago. It hit different in the best way.

Thank you to Monica Brown and Nora Lloyd for creating space for this . Centering resilience in a time like this is not just important, it’s necessary.

I am full. 🤎

No one gave better face. And walking? 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
This honors a dear friend who danced through life with joy, style, and unapologetic authenticity. A ballroom legend, a brilliant soul, and a radiant presence. I painted them to honor and remember the light they brought into the world.

Returning to the basics while pushing myself to layer with intention.
Patterns on patterns. Figures grounded in history.

Black History Month has me thinking about the stories we carry, the weight and beauty in our histories, and how I can honor that more deeply through my work.

This one started as an old unfinished , and now it’s getting a second life, stronger and more intentional. Excited to see where she goes...

This work unites two ideas we explored at my artist talk at Overture : permission to rest or , and the red dot theory: the belief that our worth is inherent, not earned or proven.

Rest becomes an act of dignity. Presence becomes enough.

Grateful for everyone who came to experience the work, leaned into the conversation, and spent time reflecting.

Thank you to Overture Galleries for holding space for dialogue. Thank you to my co-artist Marlon Banks for co-creating this powerful .

Yesterday was a whirlwind: for Manifest Black at Overture Galleries! ✨️✨️✨ The mix of anxiety and excitement is always real, but seeing it all come together was worth every nervous second.

🔴 The Red Dot
A new in my work.
It started as a nod to the mark of sale, of value assigned. In the context of this body of work, an ode to the strength and grace of , I saw a deeper meaning. It spoke to the inherent value of and how often that worth is defined by others.

But it also carries another layer - the pulse and flow of , the quiet rhythm that connects us. Where the gallery dot says sold, mine says seen.

You’ll find it woven throughout the show…
which I’m excited to share will be opening soon at the Overture Center for the Arts.

More to come.

Room to Breathe

on wood panel

Sometimes rest is the work.

The air feels so thick with chaos right now. Racism, violence, and greed are not only tolerated but sanctioned. The grows weary. The constant noise, the fear, the erosion of empathy… it all takes a toll.

This began as my quiet rebellion against that weight. I wanted to explore what it looks like to reclaim space for softness, for stillness, for self? For especially is not an escape, but a form of survival and resistance.

I don’t know if or how I’ll finish this piece. And maybe that’s what rest is, the permission to stop before everything is complete. To take a moment to and just be.
