Overture Center’s Community Advisory Council (CAC) co-hosted a panel, “The Wiz and Black Resistance in Theater,” at Madison’s newest community space, The Center for Black Excellence and Culture.

The purpose of the panel was to provide a free community conversation about the history, importance and impact of Black resistance in theater ahead of “The Wiz,” which is at Overture Center now through October 11. Panelists included Anothony Lamar Brown II, Kiah Calmese Walker, Baron Kelly and Overture Center Co-CEO and Chief People Officer Victor Patterson.

Check out our blog to learn more and to view the full panel moderated by Dana Pellebon! https://www.overture.org/blog/2026-september-black-brilliance-takes-center-stage-in-the-wiz-community-conversation/

The panel was beautifully captured by M.O.D Media with Carlos Guzman and Allison Lenz adding their creative visual arts to this event.
