It’s June so you know what that means… Happy Pride Month 🌈❤️✨
Originally I thought I should keep this address lighthearted, “positive vibes only”, and surface level. But the reality is that our collective community, as well as the intersecting groups within it, are undergoing increased scrutiny in various forms. From unjust administrations imposing laws and policies on our most vulnerable, to the ever increasing costs and uncertainty in our world today.
There is nothing wrong admitting are not feeling as joyous as usual. It is okay to acknowledge the fear and anxiety that may reside within due to what is happening in the world around you. You’re not wrong and I promise you are not alone.
What I can say at this time is that I hope anyone reading this takes the opportunity to choose moments of joy when they present themselves. Choose presence and participation in your company of the people you love. Contribute and connect with the people that surround you at work, in your home, and the very spaces you occupy. Be deliberate in the space you create and share, now more than ever.
The fight for liberation continues my friends, but it was never meant to be fought alone. Continue to support the missions and work of the organizations committed to uplifting us all. Support your local LGBTQ establishments and businesses that see you 365 days in a year, not just when there’s dollar signs attached to the event. Donate your time if you have it, donate those dollars if you have them.
This Pride Month I invite you all to come as you are, because your presence is felt and your existence MATTERS.
