Living Lignum Living Lignum is a small woodworking shop in Madison Wisconsin that creates handcrafted, sustainable, wood-products for everyday life.

For centuries, wood has been essential to nearly every civilization around the world. Modern times have brought us many different types of materials but none as versatile and as beautiful as wood. Lignum is the Latin word for wood; the living wood tissue to be precise. When adapted to the English language the word took on a new meaning, as deadwood. With the English definition, lignin is the non-l

iving tissue that is the basis of all wood products from the lumber that creates our homes to the books that we used to read. Somewhere in the modernization of wood-products, lignum lost its life and our intention is to bring it back.
