I've been a little quiet on here.
In 2012 I opened Isabelle's Princess Parties. I started with one high-end custom costume and a desire to offer only the highest possible quality.
I quickly expanded, adding more costumes as I booked more parties, and eventually hiring some really lovely performers to work with me. After about 6 months of business, I quit my full-time job to focus on my business. It was such a rewarding decision.
It has always been a joy to offer a service that brings happiness to people. From the excited children to the grandparents smiling because they are enjoying watching the children, I have so many really special memories of parties and events.
99.9% of my customers have been wonderful to work with. In truth the primary challenge I've faced with my business has always been having enough performers to meet our demand.
Once I started having kids I stopped performing at parties myself. Now that my kids are school-aged, I've struggled with the stress that comes from taking my business so personally. My kids now have very full weekends, and as a mom, I want to be present for all of it, which is challenging when I'm concerned with making sure performers safely arrived to their events and that everything went smoothly.
I have weighed whether to stay open or not since the pandemic a few times. This spring I decided to take a pause on new bookings to see how I felt about it.
At this time I'm going to continue to have this pause on new bookings. If we do decide to reopen I want to be fully confident that I have a full enough cast to accommodate requests.
