Today, on what would have been his birthday, Center Players honors and celebrates the life and legacy of Peter James. We hold his loved ones—his family, friends, and the casts who had the privilege of working with him—close in our hearts.

Peter lived by the motto, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”

In his memory, may we all rehearse our lines “one more time.”

Center Players wants to congratulate Madison Nathaniel Upendo who starred in T’was the Night Before Christmas for Center Players. We are proud of the work he is doing for the theatre community!

Congratulations to Mr. Madison Upendo on being selected as a W.K. Kellogg Foundation Fellow!! 🎉

Mr. Upendo is one of just 80 leaders nationwide chosen for this highly competitive, 18-month fellowship focused on equity-centered leadership and community impact. While continuing his work with Jackson Public Schools, he’ll bring new tools, connections, and insight back to support our scholars, families, and community. 👏👏

As Chair of the Ida B. Wells Performing Arts Center's Theatre Department, Mr. Upendo already makes a powerful impact across elementary, middle, and high school. This honor is well deserved, and we’re excited to see how his leadership continues to grow and serve JPS.
