Even though Cookies by Kate is no longer operating, FEED will always hold a special place in my heart! FEED was our home. So many cookies baked and decorated in this space. Many of you took our cookie classes there as well.

As we head into the giving season, please consider donating to FEED (Food Enterprise & Economic Development). Donating to FEED Kitchens means helping small business owners like me fulfill their cooking and baking dreams!

On November 13 FEED Kitchens will celebrate its 9th anniversary. When we opened our doors a lot of folks were publicly hopeful but privately betting against our ability to find success. Well, it took a lot of storming but we figured out the model and we're here to stay! In celebration of our 9 year anniversary and in preparation for our 10th year we are asking the community to support us with a sustaining gift of $9.99/month or a single donation of $99.99. After 9 years of heavy use, we are in need of equipment repairs and facility upgrades. We manage to keep our doors open through facility rental fees, but the reality is that we don't have a deep operating fund and we can't raise our prices to the point that we price entrepreneurs out of the ability to produce here.

Hi! 👋🏻 It’s been a while!

Prior to the pandemic, I was considering closing up Cookies by Kate. With a growing toddler, I was finding myself wanting to spend more time with her and less time with cookies. Then the pandemic hit and I took the “break” to delay the decision. As some of you know from my website or reaching out for orders, at the end of 2020, I decided it was time and permanently closed Cookies by Kate in January 2021.

What an incredible journey it was to turn this hobby into a business in 2016. All of those nights and weekends at the FEED (Food Enterprise & Economic Development) kitchen, in addition to my full time job, the hundreds of people who took my cookie decorating classes, the weddings, and baby showers, and birthdays... it all made for such a rewarding experience. I truly cherish all of the clients and creators that I met through this. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making Cookies by Kate the success that it was.

Since deciding to close in January, we bought a house and moved so it’s been a super busy start to our year. This weekend I decorated my first set of cookies in 2021. 😱 Our daughter turned 3 and has a serious obsession with unicorns, so I couldn’t resist. 😁

Exactly one year ago, I quit my job to focus on my cookie business full time. I was terrified, but I was ready. I had spent the previous year essentially working two full time jobs. My corporate job required a lot of travel, so managing a cookie business was hard. Every night and every weekend was spent on cookies. I didn’t sleep much, I cried often, and I sacrificed so much time with family and friends.

But I had to do it. I wanted to grow my business to the point where when I left my job, it didn’t seem like a “leap.” I wanted it to be a “step.” I wanted to have the confidence that I would be successful. And you all made that happen for me.

Reflecting on the past year, I am so incredibly grateful for all of your support and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished. I’ve grown this business bigger than I thought possible, and earned the title of Best of Madison. I’ve stayed incredibly busy during a pandemic, thanks to all of you.

I’m now in a position to dream and think about what’s next. It feels like there are so many possibilities. ❤️ It’s fitting that this anniversary of mine coincides with my giveaway. Tonight I’ll be randomly selecting two people to win cookie advent calendars, as a small way to say thank you. Thanksgiving takeout option! I had the pleasure of getting to know the folks of Little Tibet Madison when we were both cooking out of FEED (Food Enterprise & Economic Development). Their food is seriously delicious!
