My long term friend, Nick Mauel who is a piano dealer and technician in Florida but who grew up in Milwaukee, sent me these two You Tube video links today. He tuned a Kawai Grand in the EBVT, my tuning that I had developed since 1992.

I had this to say about Nick's efforts:

Nick, you did a fabulous job of following the instructions! Not many technicians seem to be able to do that even though from my perspective they are quite simple and natural. To those who hear these videos, you may think that the piano does not sound any differently from what you might expect but in fact, it is. It is NOT in Equal Temperament! EBVT stands for Equally Beating Victorian Temperament. It is, from note to note, only very slightly different from the way it would be in Equal Temperament and a few notes are the same or only a tiny fraction different.

What is different is that each key signature-all 24 Major and minor keys- has its own distinct character yet the difference from one to the other is quite subtle I usually characterize it by saying, "You really know what key you are in when you are playing a piano tuned in the EBVT".Give the recording another listen and you will clearly hear when the pianist modulates from one key to another. You will especially notice the contrast of Key Color when the modulation is only a hald step. There is quite a distinct difference in character.

My apprentice from way back beginning in 2014, Lucas Brookins RPT who was age 17 at the time I first met and started teaching him Piano Technology, dropped by on Friday, Feb 1 at the Janesville Performing Arts Center (in Janesville, Wisconsin) where I had tuned the piano for a show. Lucas has many talents and one of them is as a stunning pianist. He sure knows how to make a 9 foot Steinway ROCK!

Lucas offered 2 samples: one from the camera on stage and the other from the audience. The piano is a 9 foot, Model D Concert Grand Piano made by Steinway & Sons in 1965 at the factory in New York City. I replaced it's original Teflon action parts with new ones from the NYC factory 30 years ago in 1990.

I'm not a rebuilder but I do the best that I can in such a case. I've been taking care of it ever since. The sessions at the Steinway factory in 1986 under Bill Garlick in 1986 and Scott Jones in 1991 have greatly helped me maintain the instrument.

I have always tuned this piano in the EBVT that I developed in 1992 for each and every artist and event. With or without orchestra or ensemble and for all imaginable types of music. I never once had a question or complaint about tuning or temperament but there have been many laudatory comments, many from the artist on stage.

Lucas Brookins will be age 23 on February 18. He has his own piano tuning business and lives in Janesville, Wisconsin.

The new edition of the Piano Tuning "Bible" just came out. "Piano Servicing. Tuning and Rebuilding" . The book that all Piano Technicians like me have studied and learned from. The author is Art Reblitz but he personally asked me if he could use some of my written material for the Tuning section of his new edition. I happily agreed!
