The end of the semester at UW-Madison means our wonderful student assistants are moving on to their next adventures following a full academic year with us here at Tandem Press.

Kate Goodvin is pursuing her MFA in Printmaking and just finished her second year in the program. As our 2025-2026 Graduate Studio Assistant, she worked on printmaking projects by Suzanne Caporael, Wendy Red Star, and Marie Watt. As part of her assistantship, we also asked her to collaborate with a fellow UW-Madison Art Deptartment grad student to create a full edition from start to finish. She learned a lot about working on a collaborative edition and did a fantastic job with the project. Kate is incredibly hardworking, efficient, and kind. She was great to have in the studio and we’re really going to miss her.

Good luck with your final year, Kate! Can’t wait to see your thesis show next spring!

Now on view in our gallery at Tandem Press:

Fluid Mechanics
On view through August 29

Artists have long been fascinated by the flowing movement of liquids, which can evoke resilience, healing, and life. However, fluidity can also convey the possibility of change, loss of control, or even destruction. Bringing together works of print, painting, sculpture, and photography, Fluid Mechanics explores a range of meanings associated with fluidity and its material and conceptual uses in contemporary art.

Guest curated by Alexandra Riesco, Tandem Press 2025–2026 University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate Student Curatorial Assistant, Fluid Mechanics features work by local Madison artists as well as selected works from Tandem Press’s inventory, each using or expressing fluidity in different ways. Featuring works by Baran Ataei, Suzanne Caporael, Emma Harris, Dani Hughes, Marie Lorenz, Cameron Martin, Judy Pfaff, Jane Rosen, Alison Saar, and Christian Ulloa. Guest curated by Alexandra Riesco.

Tandem Press is closed to the public May 11-13. We will resume our regular gallery hours on Thursday, May 14.

On Monday, May 11, Tandem Press will be recognized for exceptional contributions to the field of printmaking at Print Center New York’s annual Spring Benefit. We are deeply honored to be celebrated alongside renowned artist and longtime collaborator Derrick Adams and Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway. This recognition from such an esteemed organization means a great deal to all of us at Tandem Press.

Print Center New York champions printmaking as a medium that drives invention, collaboration, and access, and plays a vital role in society. Through exhibitions, public programs, education, and support for artists, it serves as a dynamic hub for exploration and inquiry for both dedicated audiences and those new to the field.
