Family-friendly waterpark offers multiple attractions: Wave-action pool; Triple-flume waterslide; new children's Splash Pad with 52 interactive water features, including a water play climber with slides and a dumping bucket. Oakland County Parks and Recreation lifeguards are trained through the Jeff Ellis and Associates International Lifeguard Training Program and are licensed by Ellis to work at OCPR facilities. Lifeguards take part in an initial 24 hours of training, 10 hours of orientation, on-site training and 10 hours of shadowing a veteran lifeguard on duty at the pool. Lifeguards are required to attend one hour of in-service training per week throughout the summer to ensure their lifeguard skills continue to be top-notch.

Thousands of guests biked, boated and camped in . They enjoyed nature programming, fishing, golfing and off-roading. The equivalent of 8.5 Mt. Everests was climbed on our rock wall at community events! Acres of invasive species have been removed and 17,000 native plants distributed as part of Natural Resources Management initiatives. 🌿

We did so much in 2024. and we can't wait to show you what we've got planned for this year!

NEWS RELEASE: thanks all residents who served in the military as the nation prepares to mark Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11.

November is also Military Family Appreciation Month, the perfect time to thank veterans and their families for their commitment and sacrifice through the years.

OCP’s military recreation voucher program has been popular among veterans, active military personnel and Gold Star Families, those who have experienced the loss of an immediate family member who died during active-duty military service. The vouchers are good for one free night of camping, a free waterpark visit or free entry to the ORV park.

Information about the 2025 Military Appreciation voucher program and other veterans programming will be announced in the spring. Call 248-858-0916 for more information.

Quarton Lake in downtown is a picturesque spot where visitors can enjoy a portion of the Rouge River.

But not every community has such a feature, and even fewer communities have a spot where they can access the Rouge River, Clinton River or other waterway via boat or kayak.

wants to enhance and expand opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and get active through greater investment in regional walking and water trails, improved accessibility for people of all abilities, education and enrichment programs and partnerships with local communities to develop new and renewed parks close to where people live.

Adding access points to local waterways would be one of the initiatives Parks would take on if the millage proposal on the Nov. 5 ballot is passed.

is committed to creating and maintaining outdoor spaces that are for all ages and abilities.

In recent years we have focused on expanding trails for hiking, biking and kayaking and added new fitness activities like pickleball and archery. We’ve made sure these activities are available to everyone by offering adaptive kayak launches, paved trails and an accessible 90’ foot area at the archery range. Equipment like hand cycles and single rider golf carts are available in the parks as well.

Our Quiet Zone tent, a sensory inclusive space where individuals can take a break from unwanted sensory input, is featured at large-scale Oakland County Parks events. We are also proud of our Adaptive Recreation programming that offers year-round opportunities for those with physical disabilities and individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Great things are happening in your parks, but there is still much work to do.
On Nov. 5, Oakland County voters will decide a ballot proposal that asks for authorization to replace OCP’s current 0.35 millage set to expire in 2029 with a new 0.65 millage that would expire in 2043. If approved, the net 0.30 increased rate will generate approximately $24 million annually. The impact of the net rate increase for the owner of a home with the county’s average residential taxable value would be $40 a year.

Some of these funds will go toward expanding accessible features and outdoor recreation opportunities throughout Oakland County.

Plans are to partner with local communities to renew aging neighborhood parks by replacing deteriorating playground equipment and adding new universally accessible features.
