The 567 Center for Renewal is a non-profit bringing creative life to downtown Macon and surrounding areas through events, classes, public art, and business development. Need a night out? Sometimes you just need to make time for your friends and recharge together…creatively!

Whether you and your bestie are first-time painters or you have some experience, you’ll find our paint and sip classes to be relaxing and approachable. Our teaching artists are encouraging and just plain fun! As they walk you through the painting process, you’ll learn a little and laugh a lot. At the end, you’re sure to have paintings you love, and that show your own personality.

We’re so proud of Colin for being of Macon Magazine’s 5 Under 40 Young Leaders this year!

In addition to being our Gallery Curator, Colin is also curator for Theatre Macon, Owner of Shape & Space Art Management and President of the Ocmulgee Artist Guild, just to name a few of his community involvements.

Colin is one of those rare people who grew up in Macon, stayed here and believes in it. His love for helping artists succeed is what drives his success at work, but that’s not the only way he’s helping our community. Make sure you pick up a copy of Macon Magazine to read Colin’s thoughts on Macon for yourself.

Also, we just realized Colin has been working with The 567, either as Fine Art Director or as Curator, for 10 years! Can you believe it? We’re so lucky to have him as part of our team.

Spotlight on: Kelly Kernich

Kelly has been drawing and painting for most of her life. She developed her skills with classes and joined an artist guild near where she lived in Charleston. When she moved to Macon in 2021, she started painting full-time.

Upon moving to Macon, Kelly heard about The 567 Center and met our curator, Colin, who invited Kelly to show some of her work in our gallery. She found Colin to be supportive and approachable, and Kelly started regularly coming to First Friday events.

“Being new to the Macon art Scene, The 567 was a godsend,” Kelly says. “The 567 became my doorway to finding other creatives in Macon. It has given me an avenue to show and sell my work, assisted me with skill development through workshops and classes, and provided a venue to see amazing works of art from other local artists. Honestly, It’s just important because it’s a family of people where I can get support and be myself.”

After exhibiting her work at The 567 and spending time there, Kelly wanted to give back. She started volunteering regularly, became a supporting member, and, eventually, joined our board of directors.

In addition to what The 567 has done for her personally as an artist, Kelly also believes in what The 567 does for our community. “People come to 567 Center to experience the artistic expression of others, to take a fun class with their friends, and to gather and dream, and create together. Communities thrive when they have the arts.”

Resin workshops with MADE by MK are always a blast! She makes it so easy to create something beautiful with her hands-on approach. Everyone loved how their wall art turned out in the last resin workshop. The next workshop will be making jewelry, and it’s coming up next week! Details: For this workshop, you will create pendants and matching earrings by filling a metal bezel with UV resin and your choice of color pigments or additives. This is the ideal workshop for beginners and those who are curious about working with resin without waste and frustration. You'll be guided step-by-step through mixing, adding colors, and pouring to create your own custom look.

What a lovely weekend of pottery and painting! It’s always nice to see everyone out on First Fridays, and we were thrilled to celebrate the opening of the Woodfire Potters of Georgia exhibit. It was followed by a relaxing night of painting in Corks & Canvas.

If you couldn’t make it on Friday, the exhibit will be open all month. We’re open Monday-Friday, 11 am-4 pm.

Explore all the galleries open late on First Friday in downtown Macon–who knows what you’ll discover!

For August, join us for a special Art Walk in partnership with NewTown Macon! Head to the corner of First Street and Poplar Street, in front of Just Tap'd, to get your Art Walk map from the Robins Financial Credit Union tent! While you're there, you can find out how to enter for a chance to win an Art Supplies Giveaway. This First Friday, several art galleries will be open late with new exhibits, refreshments, and more. Plus, a few of our businesses are also offering some fun events to unleash your creative side!

Macon Arts Alliance (486 1st Street), 4-7 pm
Macon Arts Alliance presents their August exhibit, “Joie Debris– art beyond waste.” This exhibit explores the beauty, creativity, and possibilities found in discarded materials, featuring 2D and 3D work from regional artists and those across the country. In addition, there will be an interactive table sponsored by ArtSpace Macon on the sidewalk for people to make their own art from junk.

The 567 presents the Woodfire Potters of Georgia, a statewide touring exhibition bringing long-overdue attention to Georgia’s vibrant woodfiring tradition. Work by six different potters from Macon and across the state will be on display. See the new exhibit and enjoy light refreshments.

McEachern Art Center (332 2nd St), 6-8 pm
The MAC will celebrate the opening reception of “The American South” featuring artwork by Cal Walker. Featuring a special musical performance by Julie Anne Steed and Jake Steed.

Gallery West (447 3rd St), 5 pm
Visit Gallery West for its Grand Re-Opening celebration featuring artwork by Amoria Stephens!

Local Maconian Will Washburn opens a solo show at The Rose Room, with an artist talk at 5:30 pm. Grab a specialty frozen cocktail ($10) or mocktail ($7) beforehand, then stay for 80s Ladies Night with a DJ, light refreshments, and a meet and greet. Frozen drink special runs $10 all night.

Ocmulgee Brewpub w/ Artspace Macon (484 2nd Street), 5-8 pm
Join Artspace Macon at Ocmulgee Brewpub for their Summer Showcase! Shop original artwork, prints, stationery, stickers, collage packs, and more. Try the free DIY Mini Collage Station, open to all ages (donations appreciated). Grab dinner and a drink while you browse.

The new exhibit is coming together! We can’t wait for you to see this collection of work by the Woodfire Potters of Georgia, opening on First Friday. Work by six different potters from Macon and across the state will be on display.

The artists’ practices span folk pottery lineages, Japanese kiln traditions, and contemporary ceramic artistry – united by a shared devotion to the centuries-old craft of woodfiring. The group includes some of the most influential names in Southern pottery, among them legacy potters such as Roger Jamison with more than 30 years of firing experience. Potters often travel great distances and work through the night to participate in firings that range from short, traditional folk sessions to multi-day Anagama and Naborigama firings inspired by the traditional Japanese practices.

On Friday, 5-8 pm, you can see these incredible pieces in person and meet the potters themselves. The exhibit will be on display through August 28.
