Directed by Nastasya Popov
Starring Anna Baryshnikov

Summary - In this sharp, irreverent comedy, Margarita (Anna Baryshnikov), a disgraced fashion designer with a dangerously low credit score, enters a reality show with a six-figure cash prize to save her babushka's West Hollywood apartment. But as the competition intensifies, slick producer Nicol (Camila Mendes) pushes her to spin her family's struggle into spectacle, forcing Margarita to decide whether to play along or take control of her own narrative, one unhinged look at a time.

Review Excerpts:

Variety - Popov delivers a boisterous tale of a woman coming into her own, told with real humor and heart.
New York Times - The American dream gets a quirky wardrobe upgrade in “Idiotka,” a lightweight but winning comedy . . . the movie’s devotion to family solidarity guarantees a measure of genuine feeling.

Johnny “Big Cat” Mize was one of the greatest hitters of baseball’s Golden Era. Born and raised in the small mountain town of Demorest, Georgia, in northeast Georgia, Mize emerged from the heart of Dixie as a larger-than-life slugger.

During his remarkable career, Mize became a ten-time All-Star, a home run champion, and a World Series hero. After waiting 28 years for the honor, he was finally inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the game’s most feared hitters.

Nicknamed “The Big Cat,” Mize terrorized Major League pitchers for 15 seasons with his powerful bat and remarkable consistency. Later in his career, he became an invaluable pinch hitter for the New York Yankees, helping them capture the World Series.

In the offseason, Mize often barnstormed throughout the South, playing exhibition games against some of the top players from the segreg*ted Negro Leagues, further showcasing his skill and love of the game.

"The Secret Agent" (Rated R, 2 hours-41 minutes, Drama/Mystery/Thriller)

Primarily in Brazilian Portuguese, w/English Subtitles
Director: Kleber Mendonça Filho

Amid the raucous revelry of Carnival week, a widower named Marcelo (Wagner Moura) arrives in 1977 in Recife, Brazil, a city as vibrant as it is violent. A technology researcher who suddenly finds himself an unwitting target in the heart of the dictatorship's political maelstrom, Marcelo is a man on the run from mercenary killers, ghosts of the past, and the ruthless, mischievously militant spirit of Brazil. In the midst of these mounting threats, Marcelo, with the help of a mysterious woman named Elza and her compatriots in the country's growing underground resistance, remains primarily focused on escaping Brazil with his young son. Master filmmaker Kleber Mendonca Filho teams up with renowned actor Wagner Moura - giving an extraordinary, career-defining performance - to craft a thrillingly unpredictable, playfully shape-shifting epic steeped in history even as it feels remarkably contemporary, paying affectionate tribute to the movies of Filho’s youth while unfolding against the backdrop of political turmoil and palpable danger.

Winner of Best Director and Best Actor in Cannes; Winner of Best Actor and Best Film at the Golden Globes, Winner of Best Foreign Language Film at the Critics' Choice Awards; Nominated for 4 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor!

"Skategoat" (Documentary, 1 hour 25 minutes)
Director: Van Albert

Leandre Sanders was born in Venice Beach, LA, into a world of gangs and crime. The only thing that kept him out of trouble was his love of skateboarding. While his older brothers joined the family tradition of running with gangs, Leandre, dubbed Skategoat, spent most of his days and nights at the Venice Beach skatepark with his younger brother, Leontay. He was so talented and determined that, at the age of 11, he caught the eye of filmmaker Van Alpert. Over the next ten years, Van documented Leandre's struggle to perfect his skateboarding and to survive.

Audience Review: Absolutely breathtaking direction and compelling content, with a truly heart-warming story. A must-see from a young director who is destined to make a huge impact in cinema!

"Immediate Family" (1 hour 42 minutes)
Director - Danny Tedesco

FREE HAPPY HOUR SPONSORED BY FALL LINE BREWING CO. AT 6:30

Summary: "Immediate Family" tracks the rise and collaborations of a group of legendary studio musicians (Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar and Steve Postell) through the 1970s, chronicling their partnerships (Carole King, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, etc.) and their record of hit-making. Directed by Denny Tedesco, whose documentary "The Wrecking Crew" followed the first wave of studio musicians in the 60s, the film reveals the machinery behind the era of the singer-songwriter, when the talents of these musicians were in furious demand. The foundation of their enduring friendship, formed on the road and in studios, is recalled with clarity—reminisced with fondness through intimate interviews with the guys themselves, as well as the memories of some of rock’s most iconic voices.

Reviews:
Variety - ....keeps hustling along like a soft-rock freight train, relying not just on the then-and-now chemistry between the four core players but also on our eagerness to jump with them to the next celebrity-session story.

Chicago Sun Times - A fantastic array of archival clips, and testimonies from the likes of Phil Collins, Carole King, Don Henley, Keith Richards, the late David Crosby, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young, and Jackson Browne...

RogerEbert.com - Serves as both a warm and undeniably tuneful nostalgia bath for those who grew up listening to their work and an effective oral history of a particular place and time in the history of American popular music.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 11 @ 2pm, 5pm
"SENTIMENTAL VALUE" (Norwegian (subtitled), Drama, 2 hours)

Director: Joachim Trier

Summary - Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Suddenly, the two sisters must navig*te their relationship with their father -- and deal with an American star dropped right into the middle of their complex family dynamics.

Reviews:
Screen Rant: Trier captures so much while saying so little, and, in many ways, Sentimental Value feels like the film he's been building toward his entire career.

Hollywood Reporter: Sentimental Value is uncommonly rich in emotional rewards and contemplative in its reflections on the places where we live, becoming a permanent repository for our memories, remaining there even after we move on. The movie’s poignancy accumulates gradually, every supple turn expertly modulated as the presence of generations past becomes more tangible.

Director -Richard Linklater
Starring – Ethan Hawke, Andrew Scott, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale

Summary – "...You know how in marriage they say "for better or for worse"? I think, in terms of my life, I have entered the "for worse" part, and it happened so quietly I didn't even recognize it." Richard Linklater's Blue Moon tells the story of legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart facing the future as his professional and private life unravel at the opening night party for his former partner's hit show Oklahoma! By the time this night is over, Hart will have confronted both a world that no longer values his talent and the seeming impossibility of love.

Reviews:
Wall Street Journal - Mr. Hawke seems like the last actor you’d cast in this role, yet he delivers the performance of his career.
The Daily Beast - Linklater's latest is a moving and multifaceted ode to a bygone era and an artist whose creativity and contradictions were equally titanic.
RogerEbert.com - Linklater has crafted one of his finest dramedies, a consistently fascinating exploration of the frailty of the artist, buoyed by one of Ethan Hawke’s most remarkable performances.

IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT (Drama/Mystery/Thriller, 1 hour-45 min)

Director: Jafar Panahi
2025 Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or Winner
Vahid, an Azerbaijani auto mechanic, was once imprisoned by Iranian authorities. During his sentence, he was interrog*ted blindfolded. One day, a man named Eghbal enters his workshop. His prosthetic leg creaks, and Vahid thinks he recognizes one of his former torturers. This sets in motion a series of escalating consequences.

REVIEW EXCERPTS:
CBC Radio: Undoubtedly one of the year's best, It Was Just An Accident is yet another moving, prickly and hopeful morality tale from Panahi about people (and a society) trying to find a way forward while processing the trauma of the past.

The Daily Beast: Both a nail-biting thriller and a messy moral drama, rife with tensions between justice and vengeance, healing and suffering, and reality and fantasy.

Critic scores:
Rotten Tomatoes: 97 (65 reviews)
MetaCritic: 88 - "A Must See"

Vahid, an unassuming mechanic, has a chance encounter with Eghbal, a man he strongly suspects to be his former sadistic jailhouse captor. Panicked, Vahid g*t...

Nominated for Best Documentary Feature, Academy Awards, 2025
Winner – Sundance Festival Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary, 2024

SUMMARY:
Amid the chaos and destruction of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, three artists find inspiration and beauty as they defend their culture and their country. In a war waged by professional soldiers against ordinary civilians, Slava Leontyev, Anya Stasenko and Andrey Stefanov choose to stay behind, armed with their art, their cameras and, for the first time in their lives, their guns. Despite daily shelling, Anya finds resistance and purpose in her art, Andrey takes the dangerous journey to get his young family to safety abroad, and Slava becomes a weapons instructor for ordinary people who have become unlikely soldiers. As the war intensifies, Andrey picks up his camera to film their story as Anya and Slava capture their idyllic past, uncertain present, and hope for the future on tiny porcelain figurines.

REVIEW EXCERPTS:
San Francisco Chronicle - Backed by a feral, driving score from Ukrainian folkloric quartet Dakha Brakha, “Porcelain War” makes the case for art as another protective weapon against imperialism.

Washington Post: “Porcelain War” is a testament to how life’s beauty — all the world’s fertility an artist is trained to see — endures among privation and death.

PORCELAIN WAR – the film critics have declared "masterfully illustrates the enduring power of art in the face of adversity" - will open in theaters, beginnin...

Director - Bernhard Wenger
At MyCompanion, the cultured and confident Matthias is available -- for a reasonable fee -- to fill any social role you desire, from 'the perfect son' to the 'enlightened boyfriend', or even 'pilot dad' to impress your classmates at Bring Your Parent to School Day. But while Matthias is at the top of his professional game, his personal life begins to crumble as he detaches from his own identity and burrows deeper into his fictitious lives. Bernhard Wenger's PEACOCK is a biting and hilarious social satire about the masks we wear in the pursuit of human connection.

Reviews:

Variety: Wenger’s script is a sly, finely balanced thing, pointedly and often hilariously poking fun at corporate and capitalistic ideals of self-improvement and social coordination, without ridiculing the individuals who feel beholden to those standards.

Screen International: "The smart concept, social commentary and a strong central performance from Albrecht Schuch combine to create a polished, slyly entertaining work that should attract arthouse audiences."
