A podium debut and two extraordinary soloists!

MMSO welcomes Case Scaglione to the podium for the very first time. The former associate conductor of the New York Philharmonic arrives with two of the most compelling soloists of their generation.

Violinist Stefan Jackiw, newly appointed faculty of the McDuffie Center and praised by the Boston Globe for playing of "uncommon musical substance," joins faculty cellist Brannon Cho, First Prize winner of the International Paulo Cello Competition, for Brahms' Double Concerto.

The program opens with Diamond's Rounds, a jubilant American classic composed during World War II after a conductor simply asked him to "make me happy," and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1, nicknamed the "Classical," a piece so witty and light on its feet it sounds like Mozart reborn with a mischievous grin.

The Music Lives On 🪕⭐

Dolly Parton had a remarkable gift for taking stories we thought we knew and making them feel entirely her own. Her voice will live on through her music and stories forever.

On December 2, we'll have the privilege of sharing Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol at The Grand. It's a fresh, heartfelt take on Dickens' classic, set to Dolly's own music and lyrics and rich with the Appalachian spirit she carried into everything she made.

It's a story about family, generosity, second chances, and the true meaning of Christmas. These are all things Dolly understood beautifully. We hope you'll join us this December as we celebrate the enduring gift she gave us all. For the next week, we'll donate $2 from every ticket sold to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

This is a sad day 🦋 Dolly Parton gave the world so much of herself, whether it was songs that became part of our lives, stories that made people laugh and cry, and a generosity of spirit that reached far beyond the stage.

Her music and storytelling touched generations, and her impact on both her community in East Tennessee and the world were legendary.

We'd been thinking about her recently because this December, we’ll have the honor of presenting Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol, featuring music and lyrics written by Dolly -- just a small part of her amazing catalog that spanned seemingly endless songwriting, playing instruments, singing, acting in television and movies, producing, business ventures, and especially generous philanthropy. Phew, what a life well lived. How lucky we are in Macon to have an opportunity to gather, listen, remember, and celebrate the remarkable work of an American original this year.

Thank you, Dolly, for the songs. And especially for the heart. ❤️
