WHAT YOU’LL HEAR ON OCT 7 WITH
Philadelphia Orchestra String Quartet
🎶 | Barber

You may know this music already—even if you don’t know the quartet.

Samuel Barber’s String Quartet, Op. 11 contains one of the most recognizable pieces of American classical music. Barber transformed its deeply moving slow movement into the beloved Adagio for Strings.

Here, you’ll hear that famous music as Barber originally conceived it: four string players, intimate and exposed, surrounded by the rest of his dramatic quartet.

WHAT YOU’LL HEAR ON OCT 7 WITH THE
PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA STRING QUARTET 🎶 | Shostakovich

Brief, intense, and deeply personal.

Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 7 is the shortest of his 15 quartets—but it packs remarkable emotional power into its roughly 12 minutes.

Written in 1960 and dedicated to the memory of his first wife, Nina, the music moves from restless energy to haunting reflection, culminating in a fierce, whirlwind finale before quietly fading away.

Hear Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 7 performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra String Quartet on October 7.
