Our Employee Spotlight is on Senior Chef Enrique Brown, who's up for Lynchburg Living's Best Local Chef along with The Maple Leaf Tea Room as Best Coffee Shop-Tea Room!
"Cooking is an art. It relaxes me. It’s like when a husky gets reintroduced to snow. You can’t really explain it, it’s just like every time I get in front of a stove or I’m prepping something it’s where I feel at home. There’s a bunch of stuff going on in the world but when I’m cooking I can forget about all of that for a little while and hone into the heat of the stove or how much time something has left is that brown enough are the spice combinations the best.
The tea room will always hold a special place in my heart because when I arrived in Lynchburg I didn’t really know what I was meant to do here. I’ve met so many cool people along the way during my time at the tea room, a lot of whom I still keep in touch with.
When I’m not making scones, I love working on the books I’m writing (and hope to publish someday), as well as poetry. I love movies. My favorite movie genre would probably be horror. I’m a big history buff. Art overall is a huge passion of mine. It can be any type really I just love creating.
My wife and I are both photographers and own a photography business together called Kanded LLC. I love how photography makes people feel and what you can get from a singular photo. I feel very grateful that many people put their trust in us to create art with them that will last a lifetime." - Enrique Brown
