Happy Fourth of July from Opera on the James!
Today feels like a good day to say thank you…to everyone who has bought a ticket, made a donation, volunteered, sponsored an event, sung in the chorus, brought a friend, or simply cheered us on over the years.

When we started this company 21 years ago, I don’t think anyone could have imagined all the places opera would take us or all the people it would bring together.

Not bad for a hometown opera company in Central Virginia.

Enjoy the holiday, the fireworks, and whatever summer adventure awaits you this weekend. 🇺🇸

Well, folks, we've reached the last day of our fiscal year.

Tomorrow we'll close the books on a season that included "Madame Butterfly," "America250: Voices of Virginia," our Tyler Young Artists' fairy tale operas in schools, library and museum performances, community center and senior community visits, Free Family Fun Days, a sold-out gala, and one absolutely perfect Picnic Concert under blue skies at Point of Honor.

Not bad for a small opera company in Central Virginia.

The truth is that organizations like Opera on the James don't happen by accident. They happen because people in this community decide that the arts matter. They decide that young artists deserve opportunities. They decide that children should experience live performance. They decide that Lynchburg and surrounding counties deserve beautiful things.
