🎟 A BALLET LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE

Corciev The Grieving Wood isn’t just a performance, it’s a transformation.

Act 1 draws you in with the beauty of traditional classical ballet and music, elegant and timeless.

Then everything changes.

Act 2 erupts into a bold, electrifying symphonic rock experience inspired by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, where the story reaches its most powerful and emotional peak.

The Joan Harris Centre proudly presents the original ballet CORCIEV: THE GRIEVING WOOD at the Dallas Performing Arts Center.

Long ago, a grieving queen wandered into a magical forest and was never the same again. Now, years later, when a young princess is taken by the spirits of that same forest, her brave sister must journey into the darkness to save her. Along the way, she will face enchanted villages, living trees, mysterious spirits, and the powerful magic that binds the forest together.

Told entirely through breathtaking ballet, Corciev: The Grieving Wood is a story of grief, courage, compassion, and hope, where even the darkest magic can be healed.

Audiences are calling it:

National Freedom Day 🇺🇸

Today we honor the signing of the resolution that led to the 13th Amendment, reminding us that freedom is a right, not a privilege.
At the Joan Harris Centre, we celebrate freedom of expression, movement, and voice through the arts. Dance gives us the space to tell stories, honor history, and uplift one another.

We recognize the progress made, reflect on the work still ahead, and remain committed to inclusion, opportunity, and respect for all.

Boys dance too.
Even the ones who swear it’s “not their thing.”

Dance builds strength, coordination, discipline, confidence, and control, the same skills used by athletes in football, basketball, and beyond. That’s why dancers train like athletes… and why athletes train like dancers.

From Mikhail Baryshnikov to Savion Glover, and even NFL legend Emmitt Smith, men have always been leaders in the dance world.

At the Joan Harris Centre, we are proud to offer training in
Ballet • Tap • Jazz • Hip-Hop • Modern,
along with a dedicated ALL-BOYS CLASS designed to create a supportive, motivating environment where boys can train, grow, and gain confidence, no pressure, no judgment.

Whether your son is brand new, athletic, or just curious, dance can change how he moves, carries himself, and believes in his abilities.

❄️ Weather & Parking Reminder ❄️

Due to the excessive snowfall, we kindly ask families to be especially mindful during drop-off and pick-up times. If possible, please drop and go to help keep traffic moving and ensure safety for everyone.

Please remember that many of our neighbors have had to shovel and maintain their own street parking spaces during this weather. We ask that those spots be respected whenever possible.

We do have a designated parking lot available for your use. Thank you for being considerate of our neighbors and for helping keep things safe and respectful during this snowy stretch.

If you have any concerns, please contact 570-287-7977.

Stay warm 🤍❄️

01/27/2026

We intend on posting the cast list for our upcoming ballet, Corciev: The Grieving Wood, at 12:00 PM tommorow. Before we do, we wanted to remind everyone about etiquette when this happens.

In the forty-three years that the studio has been around, working with other professionals as well as theater companies, community theaters, and collegiate and high school drama and dance departments, we have never met someone who enjoys casting a show. It is not a fun process, but it is a necessary one, both as an educational and developmental tool and as a way to ensure the best possible production.

Please keep the following in mind:

We take this duty extremely seriously and truly want to put everyone in a role that will not only be challenging but also showcase each dancer in their best light. It is inevitable that there will be some disappointment, and that is a totally acceptable feeling, it shows commitment to the art.

There will also be joyous excitement. If you are feeling down, talk with your support group, but please try not to let it affect your relationships with classmates. They are the same people whose love, support, and laughter you have shared over the years. If you are feeling excited, that is wonderful, but consider doing your celebrating at home, being mindful of friends who may be feeling sensitive.

These emotions have been, and always will be, short-lived. In just a few days we will begin production, and the fun and laughter will be brighter than ever. This is going to be a great show.
