⚠️⚠️ BREAKING ⚠️⚠️ •SCABIES CONFIRMED/ VIDOR HIGH SCHOOL
🚩PARENTS DEMANDING ANSWERS
•VIDOR, TEXAS - Vidor ISD has confirmed an outbreak of scabies at Vidor High School. Putting parents on alert, and triggering a growing wave of concern and anger across local social media.
The district sent a notice to families saying the situation “primarily impacts Vidor High School,” while also acknowledging that the announcement was being sent district wide.
VISD says the high school will undergo a deep cleaning over the weekend. Athletic facilities are also scheduled for what the district described as full fumigation.
Students were instructed to bring home extra clothing stored in athletic, band, plus gym lockers and wash it in hot water as well as to wash the clothes students wore to school that day.
•But the announcement has raised more questions than it answered for some parents.
“WHAT ABOUT THE BUSES?”
One local commenter pointed out that although the district says the situation primarily involves the high school, older and younger students share school buses and close contact with other students, raising concerns about possible exposure beyond the high school campus.
•Others questioned when school officials first became aware of the cases, and whether parents should have been notified sooner.
One infuriated parent said they were told the school had already sent home students who had scabies the day before notifying the parents, and was relying on parents to ensure the infestation was eliminated before Monday.
◇Another commenter questioned what steps the school is taking to treat and clean areas where students may have been exposed.
The tone online has ranged from worried to openly angry.
-WHY PARENTS ARE TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY...
🔺️ Scabies is not simply a rash that goes away on its own. It is caused by MICROSCOPIC human itch MITES that burrow into the skin and is highly contagious.
°The CDC says people can spread scabies even before symptoms appear. First time infections can take weeks, and sometimes up to two months before symptoms develop.
●Parents should watch for intense itching, particularly at night, pimple like rashes and tiny burrow lines.... Especially around the fingers, wrists, elbows, armpits, waist, groin and buttocks.
🚩 If symptoms appear, parents should follow the CDC guidelines & seek certified medical advice if needed.
°The CDC recommends washing clothing, bedding and towels used close to the skin in soap & VERY hot water, then drying them on the HOT cycle. **Items that cannot be washed, can be sealed in a plastic bag for several days to a week.
🚩 Household members and close contacts may also need treatment at the same time to prevent reinfestation.
■ For now, Vidor ISD says it is taking additional cleaning measures, and working with its health team.
But for many parents, the bigger question remains:
•WAS ENOUGH DONE, and was enough information provided, SOON ENOUGH?
🎯 WE WANT TO HEAR FROM FAMILIES!
•Do you have a student, or a family member, who has recently been diagnosed with scabies or another outbreak connected to Vidor schools?
