The historic Cactus Theater opened in April of 1938 at a cost of around $30,000 and it originally featured 720 seats and a “washed air cooling system”. The original venue operated from 1938-1958. It found new life from the mid-1990s when it was revitalized and opened primarily as a live concert and theatrical venue and operated under the guidance of Don Caldwell for the next 22 years. actus continues to evolve, guided by promoter and theater owner Darryl Holland - with emphasis on booking national touring acts. State-of-the-art digital cinema equipment and a retractable silver screen allow film screenings in addition to live concert productions in this storied venue - known throughout the region as the premier "listening room" in West Texas.
