This black and red sweater is made from 100% lamb’s wool by Bernhard Altmann and was made in Austria. Beyond its connection to Buddy, the sweater offers a glimpse into the fashions of the era and the personal style of one of rock & roll’s most recognizable figures.

Thank you to the CATALYST program at Texas Tech and the Helen DeVitt Jones Foundation for Professional Education at Texas Tech for having us host a professional development day at the Center. Fine Arts teachers from the region spent a day studying the art of Día de los Mu***os surrounded by the Celebracíon exhibit last Saturday.

The Buddy Holly Center will be hosting a small group Youth Guitar Class this Fall for beginning guitar enthusiasts aged 12-13. Lessons on the fundamentals of the acoustic guitar will begin October 18th and go through December 6th. The class is $40 in total for the 8 sessions. Each session is 30 minutes long.

Artifact Spotlight – Buddy Holly’s Childhood Drawing

This childhood drawing, created by Buddy years before he became a household name, gives us a small but personal look at his early years. There’s something special about seeing the world through a child’s imagination and even more so when that child would grow up to leave such a lasting mark on Lubbock and music history.
Today, this drawing is preserved as part of Buddy Holly’s story, offering a reminder that history isn’t always found in the big moments. Sometimes, it’s found in the little things a person leaves behind.
