TTU Vernacular Music Center

TTU Vernacular Music Center Center for research, teaching, advocacy in the world's vernacular musics, dance, & art forms.

The Texas Tech VMC offers graduate and undergraduate courses and ensembles, open to students in music, arts & humanities, social sciences, business, law, and international public policy. The VMC emphasizes "teaching across the curriculum", drawing on the expertise of a faculty team from a range of disciplines. Ample opportunities are provided for interaction with visiting scholars and guest teache

rs. The VMC serves as both a liaison and consultant for partners such as learned societies, music archives, museums, public broadcasting, and private corporations. The TTU VMC serves as an advocate for the study, appreciation, and support of vernacular musics within academics and the community at large. We also sponsor a calendar of annual arts and cultural events (most notably the TTU Caprock Celtic Christmas and the Spring Dance Festival), which are open to students and public alike.

Dear friends of the VMC:

We hope that all our followers are well and thriving! If you follow the VMC social media (here, or using on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/vernacularmusiccenter/) you know that we have tons of activity going on; see our spiffy new website! https://www.depts.ttu.edu/music/community/centers/vernacular-music/

But, in addition, we also bring news of an exciting and potentially extremely helpful way you can assist our mission. For the first time, in this year of 2025, the Nov 21 Ignite! gala concert and donor dinner at the Buddy Holly Hall has enabled purchase of banquet tables *to the benefit of specific ensembles*. The VMC, for example, has national and *international* concert & enrichments tours planned for 2026, but we can use every bit of assistance we can get.

So, if you might think of attending Ignite! anyway (it's a great gala evening), do please consider making a ticket and/or table purchase that supports your favorite VMC ensembles!
