Okay so hear me out…. You wear a n**e bodysuit or two piece set. I splatter some paint on you (maybe I even paint florals). Pose you in front of canvas drop cloths also splattered with paint and an easel with a blank canvas. And we call it the “paint me pretty” session.

WHY WOULD YOU EVER HIDE YOUR SOFTNESS?

to think of how many women hide their softness...
how many pose their rolls away and hide themselves behind intentional clothing who cover their midsections with pillows and pull clinging fabric as if something shameful

you have the body of Aphrodite’s a softness so perfectly shaped
as if directly made to rest ones head upon
a body that men went to war over
a body they built statues of and modeled shrines after that brought men to their knees to worship and revel in

to think it’s anything less than beautiful?
than perfect?
than powerful?

is to severely underestimate your beauty and power why would you ever hide your softness?

I don’t have a name for this. Suggestions?

I made this tile wall set in my studio this week. I tested it out with just the floor in a more traditional bo***ir style. And when I finished both panels, I wanted to attempt a more conceptual piece. Which brought my back to my self portrait years, which I’ve realized I really miss.

This shower setting works really well for this photograph. I’m thinking of turning this into a painting and add rain running down a glass shower in front of me. Not quite sure if it’s above my skill set, but I’d like to attempt it.

It is no great sin that my body rolls as it folds
that it dimples as it bends and scars as it stretches

It is no great tragedy that my skin is not blemish free or smooth as marble
That is wasn’t made for your pleasure or your viewing or your consumption

It is no great crime that I no longer cater to societal expectations
Shrink to fit the box, grate off pieces to perfect the mold, or turn myself fluid to fulfill the fantasy

It is no great insult to not be considered beautiful
As if beauty were the epitome of goodness
the essence of happiness or the pinnacle of value
As if it were anything more than an ever changing, man made concept

It is no great flaw to simply be
And no great transgression to be perfectly content with it.

This poem I wrote last year now fits with a lot of my work. I finally feel like it’s all coming together. My photography, painting, and writing all center around women and body positivity… which wasn’t even an intentional thing! It all happened very naturally as I focused on the things that I felt a pull towards. I feel good about the direction my art is going in. And I’m working towards connecting them all.
