MURAL – 005 ✨ MAGIC ✨

WAVEMAKER Yazmin De Los Santos brings her lifelong love of art — and imagination — to life in "MAGIC", 9ur final mural of the series.

Location: Lincoln Elementary

“My goal was to show the beauty that lives inside books,” Yazmin shared. “One side is full of knowledge — math, science, history. The other is pure imagination — dragons, sparkles, and all things magical.”

With MAGIC, she invites students (and the kid in all of us) to walk through a world where learning and dreaming go hand in hand. 📚🪄

DAY – 004 🏈 ALL STARS 🏀

Location: Shaughnessy Elementary School

Born and raised in Lowell, WAVEMAKER Laylah Woodson (aka Mya) poured her heart into "All Stars" — a mural designed to inspire movement, hard-work, & school pride.

“My contribution is about bringing more art and joy to our streets,” Laylah shared. “I hope people are inspired to explore, connect, and feel proud of how this city is transforming.”

MURAL – 003 🚀 LOST IN SPACE ✨

One small step for art… one giant leap for Lowell! 👩🏽‍🚀

WAVEMAKER Serena May Nam brought cosmic vibes to the front of the STEM Academy with her space-themed crosswalk mural — "Lost In Space" — turning a daily walk into an interstellar journey.

“My role was to design and paint a mural that’s fun and playful. I wanted something that would spark imagination and bring joy to anyone crossing it,” said Serena.

From stars to rocket ships, this mural reminds us that creativity has no limits — and neither do the streets we walk on.

MURAL – 002 🐞BUG TROUBLE! 🐜

Location: Greenhalge Elementary School

Lowell, meet the wildest crosswalk in the city.

Designed by Gabe Pereira and Kayla Pinales, "Bug Trouble!" is crawling with creativity and curiosity — a colorful mural filled with native Massachusetts bugs, designed to spark joy and wonder at Greenhalge Elementary School.

“I wanted to share my love for bugs in a fun way that might even intrigue the students walking through it,” said Gabe.

Kayla added, “We designed something interactive and playful to help beautify our schools in a way young kids will actually connect with.”

MURAL – 001 ☁️ WALKING ON CLOUDS ☁️

Location: Robinson Middle School

Designed by Mariana Zuluaga, "Walking on Clouds" brings color, pride, and imagination to the streets near the Robinson School. Inspired by their eagle mascot and the dreams of every student who walks that block, Mariana’s vision was to create a moment of lightness — as if you’re floating through your own story.

“I wanted to invoke a sense of walking on clouds,” she shared in her artist interview. “Something that makes people feel inspired, uplifted, and proud of where they’re from.”

THE DESIGN SUMMIT 🌆

Before paint hit the pavement, we brought the team together to dream, design, and dive deep into the stories they wanted to tell.

The Wave Makers Design Summit was our creative kickoff — a two-day experience & space for young artists to connect, build trust, and begin imagining murals that reflect the heart of their neighborhoods. From hands-on workshops to team-building to vision boards, this is where the magic started.

🎤 Plus, each artist was interviewed by fellow artist Mariana Zuluaga to share their story and the vision behind their crosswalk — giving voice to the movement from the inside out.

These are the bold, brilliant artists behind the crosswalk murals lighting up Lowell.

From lifelong doodlers to future designers, sculpture lovers to coloring-book dreamers — each of these creatives brings their own story, culture, and voice to the streets.

Hometown artists, shaped by family, heritage, and imagination — this crew is transforming sidewalks into storytelling spaces.

Led by local artist + mentor Matthew Wolterding ( ), these young visionaries are making waves and showing us what’s possible when youth lead with heart and paint with purpose.

📍Wave Makers is led by Aaron’s Presents & My Beautiful Mind, with support from Raw Art Works and the MassDevelopment TDI Creative Catalyst Grant.

What happens when you give young people space to create, connect, and be themselves?

ARTLAB happened. And the impact was real.
Over 8 weeks, 30+ youth came through our doors, made art, shared stories, took risks, and built something powerful together.

We’re proud to drop our ARTLAB Spring Impact Report, honoring the voices, visions, and energy that filled the room.

Endless thanks to our youth participants, guest artists .anaise & , our MBM team, and our supporters at the Lowell Cultural Council + Mass Cultural Council.
