Friends!

We want to thank all of you, and our wonderful volunteers, who helped make the 2023 Sculpture in the Park Show and Sale a huge success. The final details are still to come, but here are some exciting results thus far....

🌀Our talented artists brought 2,172 pieces of sculpture priced from $45 to $150,000.

🌀The Friday night Patron Party was a phenomenal success. Our Patron Party guests purchased 327 pieces of sculpture for $745,744.49! There were over 1,510 guests in attendance.

🌀103 beautiful pieces were generously donated to the Silent Auction. Many of the pieces had bids over the retail value.

🌀93% of artists sold pieces at the show. 83% of our first-time participants sold pieces at the show. Those are both new record highs for the show.

🌀A total of 775 pieces of sculpture were sold over the three-day sale bringing in a little over $1.5 million in revenue. After show sales continue to come in.

We truly could not have this kind of success, if it wasn't for our faithful patrons, dedicated volunteers, the Loveland High Plains Arts Council and our talented artists. All combined, it's a winning team!

Thank you! 👏👏👏

“Growing up, I was always interested in the arts and once I was introduced to glass, there was no looking back. I fell in love with the way the material moved and stretched and the endless possibilities of this great medium.

“I got my MFA with a focus in glass from Southern Illinois University. As an artist, I take what I know and love and apply it to my work, always growing and learning. I’m influenced by my surroundings, constantly observing lines created by negative and positive space.”

J. CHRISTOPHER WHITE
Loveland, Colorado

Movement, rare woods and stone, exquisite grain patterns, fluid forms, are all words used to describe the signature style of J. Christopher White. His sculptures, coupled with poetic verse, work together to express touching and eternal truths.

Christopher studied wildlife management at Texas Tech University and anatomy at the National Institute of Fine Arts, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuanto, Mexico. In 2002, he pioneered the “bronzewood meld” technique, which is used to create one-of-a-kind pieces that transition from bronze to wood.

He enjoys hunting the canyonlands of his native West Texas to find a rare piece of wood to create exceptionally unique sculptures. His sculptures have won national and international competitions and have been featured in many articles and books, including Southwest Art and Art of the West Magazine. His sculptures can be found in private collections nationally and internationally, and many of his pieces are publicly placed in corporations, museums, hospitals, and churches.

ROBERT ROMERO
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Born and raised in Santa Fe, a city rich with art and culture, Robert fell in love with art as a young man. Without any formal training, he taught himself the art of fabrication and design. Robert now has over thirty years’ experience.

Some of his art is seen in public spaces and includes a large 40-foot by 60-foot cottonwood tree that stands in front of the Los Lunas, New Mexico, courthouse. Most recently, he completed a commission for a permanent installation that is showcased as you enter Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale, Arizona. This piece is known as one of the largest standing stainless steel butterfly sculptures. Robert is a two-time Best of Show winner at the Contemporary Spanish Market in Santa Fe. .

“Thirty-nine years and counting! What a great ride we are experiencing at Sculpture in the Park.

“Born and reared in Texas, a graduate of Texas Tech University, and a professional sculptor for fifty years, I have enjoyed life among my peers in the sculpting community, especially here in Loveland every August. Loveland is the epicenter of the sculpting scene in the United States, and the Sculpture in the Park show and sale is the working model for all other sculpture shows around the country.

ART WELLS
East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

Art’s first love was music. He graduated from Berklee College of Music and played drums on the Las Vegas Strip for fifteen years. Art then discovered a natural talent for sculpting and fell in love with carving marble. To him, sculpting allows him to capture beautiful emotion like music does, but in a way that is frozen in time.

Inspired by the masters Canova and Rodin, Art’s style is figurative sculpture. Over the last thirty years, he has won first place in Sculptural Pursuit magazine’s national competition, had work acquired by the Longview Museum of Fine Arts in Texas for permanent display, and taught sculpting at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas.

GEORGE WALBYE
Loveland, Colorado

Although Colorado sculptor George Walbye is an artist who has spent his entire life in the Rocky Mountain West, his sculpture moves beyond ordinary perceptions of western art. A series of bronze bowls and lidded pots, for which George is especially noted, use elements inspired by American Indian art and ornamentation, but there is a contemporary quality in their design.

George was born in Rawlins, Wyoming, and spent boyhood summers working on ranches near the area homesteaded by his grandfather at Whiskey Gap. George is one of the five founding artists of Sculpture in the Park, and this will be his thirty-ninth consecutive show.

Denny Wainscott was born and raised in Frankfort, Indiana. He received a BS degree in education but entered the corporate sector rather than teaching. Denny changed directions altogether at the age of fifty, when he entered the art world through the medium of gourds. He has received many awards for his hand-carved gourds. His pieces are uniquely made with inlaid turquoise, lapis, malachite, silver, and mother of pearl. Denny was honored to be in the Smithsonian Craft Optimism show in 2022, and his work is displayed in the Worrell Gallery in Santa Fe.

SHARI VINES
Loveland, Colorado

Shari Vines was born in Minnesota and raised in the desert of southeastern Washington. Sculpting became Shari’s next chapter after retiring as a human resource executive with thirty-plus years in high tech. Her sculpture is mainly representational that frequently morphs to whimsy as she works hard to uncover and capture the core spirit and energy in each of her subjects.

Shari has shown in galleries in Santa Fe, Denver, and Beaver Creek, Colorado. Her work can be found in private and public collections in the United States and abroad. Most recently, she installed a monumental sculpture capturing the sacred relationship between caregivers and patients for the hospice care center in Fort Collins, Colorado.

This is Shari’s ninth year exhibiting at Sculpture in the Park and she is beyond excited to have one of her life-size pieces, a great blue heron, permanently placed in the beautiful and unique Benson Sculpture Garden.

JEREMY VERNE
Erie, Colorado

Jeremy is a self-taught lifelong woodworker and artist who creates organic abstract sculptures from select hardwoods. After creating his first work in 2018, what had been a decades-long interest in building furniture turned into an inescapable passion for sculpture. Unable to resist the pull, in 2020 he left his twenty-five-year career in UX design to pursue art full-time, winning Best in 3D at his first juried show.

"Wood brings out the warmth and soul of whatever form it takes, so when sculpting, I am both creator and witness to the beauty of the grain's depth and variations in color. The results are always unpredictable and fascinating, and I love it."

TERRY VAN LOENEN
Queen Creek, Arizona

Terry Van Loenen was born in Hill City, Kansas. Growing up, he was fascinated by wildlife, had many exotic pets, and took all the arts and crafts classes he could. After moving to Arizona later in life, he became an avid outdoorsman. He has always considered himself a wildlife artist.

Terry was a professional taxidermist for over thirty years and owned Game Tracks Wildlife Studios in Austin, Texas. During this time, he won numerous awards, including North American titles from the National Taxidermists Association, the International Sportsman’s Choice award, Texas Best All-Around award, and inclusion in the World Best Professional Division of Safari Club International.

Throughout his career, Terry has studied habitat and animal anatomy. He has spent the last several years sculpting for McKenzie Taxidermy Supply in North Carolina, which led him to the fine art of bronze sculpting. For the past eight years he has operated Arizona Wildlife Gallery in Heber, Arizona.

WAYNE TRINKLEIN
St. Peters, Missouri

“As a self-taught artist who began sculpting during my residency in family medicine, I was interested in honoring people in my life with a sculpture which depicted their special qualities. I used the knowledge of botany, chemistry, physics, metallurgy, and geology I gained in training for my medical degree, and combined it with knowledge I gained in many years of climbing trees with my four brothers. I developed a unique media using molded copper wire fused with tin to reproduce the realistic micro and gross anatomy of real trees. After twenty-five years of passionate practice in both medicine and art, I chose telling stories of people and life through trees as my full-time profession.

Hello everyone I'm new here on this group can I get a welcome from you guys
Wonderful sculpting friends through the decades. We’re enjoying another fantastic show up at Sculpture in the Park!
This evening, Serendipity helped kick off the Sculpture in the Park Show held at Benson Sculpture Garden in Loveland, Colorado. Each year proceeds of the show go towards the purchase of sculpture for Benson Sculpture Garden as well as towards the funding of park capital improvements and landscaping. To date, one hundred and sixty-four pieces of sculpture valued at over $4 million grace the grounds of the park!

Throughout the weekend, see over 2,000 pieces of sculpture from over 150 artists!
I've tried multiple times to contact their office regarding tickets. No one can seem to help and we've been coming to this for several years. Well you have one less patron coming to the show in the future.
What a great preview, don’t miss Sculpture in the Park and Art in the park this weekend in Visit Loveland!
I just came back from seeing move in day for the sculptors who are participating in this year’s Sculpture in the Park event!

What a stunning collection of artists!

The show starts Friday from 3:00pm - 8pm for the VIP party which is a ticketed event.
The show runs Saturday 9:30am - 6:00pm and Sunday 9:30am - 4:30pm with a $10 fee at the door.
Free shuttle services are available all weekend long.
Stay tuned for more details regarding the free shuttle stops that will serve both Art in the Park and Sculpture in the Park events.
