The legal and financial turmoil surrounding Uncle Nearest has just taken a massive turn. A federal judge in Tennessee has officially expanded the brand's ongoing receivership, bringing a shadowy holding company directly into the crosshairs of the court.

The receivership now includes Grant Sidney Inc., a holding company used by founder Fawn Weaver. The court alleges this entity was used to conceal a secret $20 million loan from Jay-Z’s investment firm, MarcyPen, using a shell account to hide the cash from their primary lender.

In a massive blow to the brand's public image, the judge officially deemed Fawn Weaver’s sworn testimony of a $300 million company valuation to be "not credible", and the court estimates the actual value of Uncle Nearest sits somewhere between $50 million and $125 million—standing against a staggering mountain of more than $208 million in debt.

If you look at the back label of your favorite rye whiskey, there is a massive chance it sports a 95% rye, 5% malted barley mash bill. For decades, that iconic recipe came from one place: the legendary Lawrenceburg, Indiana distillery (now known as Ross & Squibb Distillery).

On this week's episode, Master Distiller Ian Stirsman pulls back the curtain on the incredible technical evolution that allows them to completely dominate the rye market.

If you want a true masterclass in large-scale whiskey engineering and production chemistry, this is the interview you've been waiting for.

Can you actually replicate a legendary bourbon like vintage Stitzel-Weller?

On one of our latest episodes, we pose this exact question to Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame Inductee and engineering legend Pete Kamer. Pete has spent over 40 years designing, building, and running legacy distilleries—and his answer might surprise the skeptics.

According to Pete, the answer is a definitive yes... if you have the right data.

In this week's Whiskey Quickie, we're diving into one of the wildest, most experimental releases we’ve tasted in a minute: Dragon’s Milk Origin Toasted 2026C, affectionately nicknamed “A Breath of Fresh Air.”

Clocking in at 117.8 proof, this expression features a unique Madeira barrel finish that completely threw us for a loop. This thing really tastes like a heavy, hoppy IPA.

No release on Friday this week due to an unexpected and unfortunate flooding of our studio. In the 11 years we’ve produced Bourbon Pursuit, we’ve never missed an episode unless it was planned. On Tuesday this week we saw water coming from every angle and raced to move equipment out of the way as fast as possible. Fortunately, the only thing we lost is our 12’ rug that held about 5 gallons of water in it which made it feel like 150lbs. The restoration has been completed but I’ve never been so physically and mentally exhausted. We just didn’t have it in us to record. But don’t worry, we’ll be back next Friday with double the news. Thank you all for the messages, kind words, (Liz, thank you for the chocolate bar), and continuing to listen to Bourbon Pursuit making this a special project for Ryan and I.

We’ve all seen it on the back of almost every single bottle of whiskey: "Crafted by our Master Distiller." But what does that title actually mean anymore?

On this week's episode, we sit down with Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame Inductee and industry engineering legend, Pete Kamer. Pete has spent over 40 years building, fixing, and running major distilleries across Kentucky—and he pulls zero punches when it comes to how the industry throws this title around.

It’s an eye-opening, unfiltered look at the corporate side of bourbon marketing versus the grueling reality of production engineering.

For this week's Whiskey Quickie, we're diving into the massive buzz surrounding Onyx & Amber’s Guest Blender Series #1. Blended by Ryan Negley, this bottle brings together 7 to 12-year-old barrels aged in the high-altitude climate of Colorado—and it completely caught us off guard.
