There's still time to sign your children or grandchildren up for our Louisville Folk School summer camps! The second week of July, from the 13-17, Julia Purcell and Jannell Canerday are offering "Kentucky Traditions Camp: Making Crankies" at the Waldorf School of Louisville. Camp meets from 9am-3pm and is open to rising 2nd-6th graders.

Campers will learn the art of traditional storytelling through the creation of crankies- an old-fashioned scrolling picture box. Campers will collaborate on creating a large crankie and spend time creating their own smaller versions, using original stories or songs. Each day will consist of focused creative time, with plenty of free-play time. At the end of the week, campers will showcase their creations to family and friends.

Calling all bowed string players!
We are honored to share that Brittany AND Natalie Haas will be leading a Bowed String Workshop on Saturday, July 4th from 1:00-2:30 pm.

Sisters Natalie (cello) and Brittany (fiddle) Haas began their musical lives together, filling their childhood home with Bach suites and old-time tunes alike. It was on their own, however, following divergent paths through disparate musical traditions, countries, and cultures, that they both arrived as virtuosi and composers at the highest levels of contemporary string music. Fans of acoustic music can hardly mention one without referencing the other's work. With HAAS, these singular musicians finally record together - in duo form - for the first time. It is a collaboration a lifetime in the making, and a music encompassing travels through time and through the world. From Nashville to Norway, the Celtic Isles to California, Natalie and Brittany have absorbed, adapted, and made their own world of music. The result? HAAS.

Workshop participants will learn an American, Celtic or Scandinavian tune by ear, delve deep into stylistic ideas, including left and right hand techniques, and explore all the ways to provide backup, including harmonies, riffs, basic chord substitutions, shuffling, chopping, and creating a cohesive arrangement with many repetitions of the same melody. Prerequisite: Fiddle 2 or the ability to learn melodies by ear.

We hosted a Clifton neighborhood cleanup yesterday morning as part of the Muhammad Ali Center's city-wide Day of Compassion. It sure felt good to be outside with new and old friends, showing love to our earth, and to see stretches of Clifton Ave and Brownsboro Rd litter-free. We're grateful for our huge crew of volunteers from PWC, UofL, and more - thanks to y'all, we were able to cover lots of ground!
