4 years. 4 Derbies. 4 features in the Courier Journal.

Derby 149 was my very first Kentucky Derby—and the first time I ever made a floral fascinator. After moving to Kentucky, I couldn’t find anything that felt like me at a price I could justify… so I made my own. Inspired by floral couture, I dove in headfirst.

It wasn’t perfect—honestly, it was a little heavy and a little rough around the edges—but it turned heads all day. So many people asked where it was from and if I sold them, and I just laughed it off as kind flattery. I wasn’t thinking business… just creativity.

But apparently, the Courier Journal noticed too.

For Derby 150, I went all in. My wire horse fascinator became one of my boldest designs yet, catching attention from the crowd, the Courier Journal, and multiple other media features. I even rewore my Derby 149 piece for Oaks—and the questions about buying them only got louder.

By Derby 151, that idea became reality ✨
I launched Eckuine Creations with 25 fascinators… and sold out. My design was featured once again in the Courier Journal, this time as a business I had begun to build from the ground up.

For Derby 152, we did it again—another 25 pieces, another sellout, and another Courier Journal feature. 🤍

Each year, over 200,000 people gather across Oaks and Derby—an ocean of fashion, creativity, and unforgettable moments. And somehow, within all of that, my designs were chosen among the very few to be captured in media coverage. That still feels surreal.

What started as a single handmade piece—just trying to create something that felt like me—has started to grow into something so much bigger. Watching people wear my designs, feel confident, and celebrate in them… there’s nothing like it.

I still have so much I want to learn and create… and I can’t wait to see where this goes next. ✨

There’s nothing better than having insanely talented friends in the right place at the right time ✨

My friend Jenny Doyle —an absolutely phenomenal track photographer —managed to capture a few of my hats as we crossed paths in the Winners Circle on Oaks and Derby day, and I’m still in awe. Her ability to find those fleeting, magical moments (even in the middle of all the chaos of horses and people on the track post-race) is utterly unmatched.

I feel so lucky to have my designs seen through her lens—it just hits different 💕📸
