Weird but cool music tidbit of the day. I used to listen to WAKY 1035fm 1001fm 1063fm 620am radio as a kid of the 70s. A band that was in heavy rotation was Dr Hook. They had awesome songs like Cover of The Rolling Stone, Sharing The Night Together, When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman, Sylvia’s Mother, Only Sixteen.

Here’s the weird cool part … Did you know that renowned children’s author and poet Shel Silverstein (Where The Sidewalk Ends) wrote a bunch of their hits??

He also wrote or co-wrote for Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, EmmyLou Harris, Conway Twitty and more!

For those of you who don’t pay particularly close attention to the Louisville music scene (and you should, btw) … Brigid Kaelin’s name isn’t screamed loud enough! She is one of the most talented, world class singer/songwriter/musician/producers on the entire planet!

Recently, she was hired by Elvis Costello (yes … that Elvis Costello!) to play at the famed The Gramercy Theatre in NYC during his monumentally praised 10 night run. Spin, Variety and a few other major publications covered this, spotlighting Brigid’s name several times!

Why oh whyyyyyyyyyy has no local Louisville media covered this??? This utterly blows my mind! This is no way to treat a beloved, international touring artist of this magnitude who happens to call Louisville her home! We are so incredibly lucky to have her magical energy and her unending support of our local music scene. Get your s**t together Louisville music scene and throw the media spotlight on our hometown artist heroes who are earning these incredible opportunities that put feathers in our collective cap!

It used to be that it was considered a Herculean feat if artists dug into their back catalogs to recreate two, three or even four classic albums in their entirety for a run of back-to-back concerts…

I am genuinely so happy and proud beyond measure of every one of these fine, talented folks. Way back in another life … pre pandemic … I started booking a cool Black Crowes tribute band. Then Covid happened and all music bookings came to an abrupt halt.

Over Covid shutdown … the band members began to write original music and rebranded as Runaway Souls. It took two years .. but tonight is the night when the public finally gets to hear songs from their debut album!

If you are looking to get out in this beautiful weather, hear some amazing foot stomping music and support our local music scene … head over to Gravely Brewing Co in Louisville, Ky for the the celebration of the album release . Music starts promptly at 8pm. No opener. Oh … and Gravely has a Mayan Cafe food truck! Yummmmmmm!

I’m not a huge country music follower but I absolutely love 50s thru 70s country music. I came across the music of this 26 year old up and coming singer/songwriter, William Beckmann. He grew up in a small Texas border town so he definitely has that cool, old school Lefty Frizzell vibe mixed with a bit of a modern day Glen Campbell.

When I hear the real deal, I always get a “musical spidey sense” and I hope I’m right with this kid.
