Festival Fact Friday!💡

Did you know the Shepherd Insurance Great Steamboat Race has been a tradition since 1963?🚢

The first race featured the Belle of Louisville Riverboats and the Delta Queen, kicking off a river rivalry that's entertained Festival fans for more than 60 years!🌊

Over the years seven different boats have competed and won the race: Delta Queen, Belle of Louisville, Belle of Cincinnati, Julia Belle Swain, Natchez, Spirit of Jefferson, and Mary M. Miller.

Counting 2026, the Belle of Louisville has won the race 32 times.

“When I first joined the Kentucky Derby Festival Board in 2004, I simply wanted a fun way to give back to the Louisville community,” said Fisher. “What I could never have imagined was the privilege of working alongside so many dedicated directors, staff members, volunteers, sponsors and community leaders who make the Festival possible year after year.”

A dedicated Festival Board member for 18 years, Fisher brings outstanding leadership and a passion for the Louisville community to this new role.⚜️

We're also excited to congratulate the newly elected officers and welcome the Festival's newest Board members as they help shape another incredible year ahead.🩷
