Ok Society...
Alot I wanna say to this. First I'd like to extend thanks to Louisville Horror Con and all the vendors, volunteers, and most importantly the celebrities who attended though that part will most likely get overlooked but not so much what's about non the less know that there were/are those of us who have been nothing but appreciative for the experiences/interactions.
Well as the saying goes " this is why we can't have nice things" and couldn't be truer in this situation. As some of know and will soon come to know, this weekend marks the end of "Cons" coming to Louisville. Sighting general attendance decline and overall lack of support, the posting essentially spelled the ending of any future plans for future "cons" to the city of Louisville. Like I said I have so much I wanna say but I don't want to seriously go down the finger pointing rabbit hole. What I will say, as a Louisvillian, I extremely disappointed in my city right now and I don't care the opinions to what "scale" a "Horror" convention falls on to be able to speak on it! To me it's the very essence of this that that goes into illustrating a point. So because as Horror con is not considered a "bigger" thing that means it shouldn't still be promoted and help shine a light on the city as "we're a place to come"? We want all these "venues" here or to come here yet look how we do the smaller ones! Still chomping at the bit for a "pro team" yet we can't manage/promote the smaller when that's your untapped market. Yeah Paranormal, Horror, sci-fi are small communities but they add up in the long-term. For some these cons where they only exposure as they didn't have to drive miles away to another city to experience. Was for me. Now it's gone. Good job Louisville, we failed as a whole because there's blame all around. The city, us in the community, we want these things yet don't wanna support them in the way it matters.. we don't show up yet we claim to be about the cultures...we'll "like" a post about but that's where it stops. I don't know Society I'm a little taken aback right now. I was seeing the posts in my hiatus over "Unity" well lack of among other things and at the time I wasn't seeing into some of the reasoning but with this situation I am at a quandary as to now seeing a bit more validity in those statements. And this isn't just what's happening with the Louisville Horror con it's across a multitude of events where I hate to admit it but I'm finding myself agreeing to things at one time I wasn't seeing exactly.
No this isn't ending with an "and for that I'm done" type thing. It's facing facts and being accountable as a member of a supposedly committed to this culture culture we've all cultivated in one way or another. We all have roles in this if this is to go anywhere past still being seen as small change, back room obscurities. If the city or whoever wants to drop the ball then it should fall on us; should be anyways but get the point. Whether effective or not it gets the ball rolling it starts the conversation.. I don't know, I'm just truly saddened and disappointed with it. Especially when it was an outcome that didn't need/have to be....
