I’m still technically on vacation.

And I plan to enjoy every remaining minute of it. 😊

But after bouncing around the country visiting family, hopping on airplanes, unpacking suitcases just long enough to repack them, and generally having no idea what time zone my body thinks it’s in...

September is starting to creep into my brain.

Not enough that I’m ready to put on my paint apron tomorrow.
⠀
Let’s not get carried away.

But enough that I’ve started thinking about getting back into the studio, seeing familiar faces, opening fresh paint, and remembering how to function on an actual schedule again.

Thankfully, I still have a little vacation left.

My first Paint & Sip isn’t until September 12, which gives me a few more weeks to recharge before Canvas & Coffee officially comes back to life.

As I write this, our final Summer Art Camp has wrapped up.

The last parent has headed home. The artwork that covered every table is gone. The paint bottles are back on the shelves, the tables are wiped down, and for the first time in weeks, the studio is completely still.

This summer, every single camp sold out.
⠀
Thank you for letting me watch so many young artists grow in confidence over the last several weeks.
⠀
It's one of my favorite parts of the year.
⠀

Every August I close the studio for a few weeks and head out to visit family. This year I'll be making my way from Oregon to Oklahoma, spending time with my mom, my brother, my kids, and anyone else who's willing to feed me along the way.

I'll also be bringing my little watercolor set.

I can't promise I'll finish anything spectacular, but I know I'll find a few quiet moments to paint, recharge, and collect ideas for what's next.

Then I'll be back in September, rested and ready to paint with all of you again.

This camp is packed with projects.

And I do mean packed.

We’ll create a mosaic project, paint jousting knights, make our own family crests, and create painted stained glass that gives kids the look of those beautiful old windows without anyone having to build a cathedral first.

There’s also a Dragon Eye watercolor, which I have a feeling is going to be a favorite.
⠀
And then there’s the Mona Lisa.
⠀
No trip through the art and history of the Middle Ages is complete without meeting the woman who has been quietly smirking at all of us for more than 500 years.

By the end of the week, kids will have worked with different styles, materials, techniques, and plenty of color. They’ll go home with a whole collection of finished artwork, just like my first two sold-out camps.

This Sunday I'm packing up my brushes, canvases, and all the good stuff and heading to Bubba's 33 for a free paint and cocktails brunch.

We're painting something called Dragonfly Dream. It's a colorful garden scene with loose flowers, swirling blues, and one gorgeous dragonfly right in the middle.

Bubba's handles all the food and drinks. I bring everything you need to paint. You just show up and have a good time.

I have a confession.

After a very busy week of Summer Art Camp, Father's Day almost snuck right past me.

I ended up with even more campers than I originally planned for, which meant a week full of paint, laughter, questions, snacks, and approximately 47,000 trips to the sink.

It was an amazing week.
⠀
But by Friday afternoon, I was running almost entirely on coffee and adrenaline.
⠀
Barely had a chance to catch my breath when I glanced at the calendar and realized Father's Day is this weekend.

I was looking at this weekend's lineup and realized something.

The weekend gets progressively stranger.

And Saturday night ends with a UFO hovering over Albuquerque.

Because we both know how it usually goes... one minute it's April, the next minute it's one or two days before and everyone's scrambling to figure something out. 🙂
