My relationship with my mom morphed quite a bit throughout my life. For much of my adult life, it wasn’t good. I suppose the best way to describe my feelings on past Mother’s Days was grief over the relationship I wanted to have with her. A few years ago she came back to me - the mom I remembered. I held her at an arms length, never quite letting her all the way in. Last year, it morphed into me as the caregiver. I spent a huge amount of time with her, taking care of her, getting to really know her and finally letting her know me. In January, my mom passed away. It’s been hard. I’ve grown a lot. I’ve learned to give up control and just take things as they come. Every day is different and some are awful but over all, I am actually really happy. Sometimes, that makes me feel guilty. How can I be happy just a few months after my mom died? Deep down, I know that’s what she would want for me. Happiness and acceptance but I still struggle with my mixed emotions. This morning I felt an overwhelming urge to paint. I had a color palette and general idea of what I wanted but with fluid art you have very little control of the outcome. This piece is exactly what I needed it to be ❤️
