Legendary photojournalist, DAVID BURNETT with special reading from SALLY ASHTON, California Poet Laureate
Every once in a while, we have the opportunity to host someone whose work has not only documented history—but has become part of it.
Whitney Modern is honored to welcome legendary photojournalist David Burnett for a special evening celebrating his exhibition of rare Apollo 11 photographs.
Assigned by TIME magazine to photograph the Apollo 11 launch in 1969, Burnett went on to document presidents, world leaders, Olympic Games, wars, and many of the defining moments of the past half-century. Frequently invited to speak at institutions including Stanford University and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, he will share the fascinating stories behind his iconic images and what it was like to witness history through the lens of his camera.
This evening will also feature a reading by SALLY ASHTON, California Poet Laureate Emerita, from her acclaimed new collection of essays, Going to the Moon.
Admission is complimentary, and all are welcome. However, seating is limited, so we encourage you to arrive early.
