Exciting to see ideas move from the page into practice. 🎭

When TheatreDNA partnered with the City of Surprise to develop a business planning study for their arts and entertainment operations, one of our core recommendations centered on scenario-based planning — giving the City the flexibility to think beyond programming a single building and instead build a team capable of generating value across multiple civic priorities.

The City of Surprise is now doing exactly that.

Their newly rebranded Sports, Entertainment and Cultural Division will serve as both the presenting arm for the Vista Center for the Arts and the live-entertainment producing arm for existing city festivals and events — including the Out of the Park Country Fest. This kind of structural thinking unlocks real cost recovery potential and gives the City options to deploy this team in ways that deliver measurable returns on community investment.

This is what we mean when we say business planning should create options, not just org charts. Congratulations to the City of Surprise on this forward-thinking move — we’re proud to have played a role in shaping the framework that got you here.

TheatreDNA was honored to attend the 2026 LA Preservation Awards, hosted by the Los Angeles Conservancy, celebrating the projects and people committed to preserving the fabric of our built environment.

We were thrilled to see the USC Dick Wolf Drama Center recognized at the event — a project close to our hearts. Together with our incredible colleagues at Perkins Eastman and McKay Conant Hoover, our team transformed a century-old church into a vibrant performing arts educational complex for the USC School of Dramatic Arts. This adaptive reuse project breathed new life into a historic structure rather than consigning it to demolition — and that’s exactly the kind of work that gets us excited to come to the office every day.

Adaptive reuse is more than a design philosophy for us — it’s a commitment to honoring the stories embedded in older buildings while creating spaces that serve the needs of today and tomorrow. Watching a congregation’s beloved church become a place where the next generation of dramatic artists trains and performs? That’s a legacy worth preserving.

Congratulations to all the honorees, and thank you to the LA Conservancy for championing the irreplaceable value of historic preservation across Los Angeles. 🏛️

The best teams make time to come up for air — and that’s exactly what we did in LA. 🎭

Our annual retreat is where we step back from the day-to-day to reflect on the year, sharpen how we show up for our client partners, and reconnect as a team that mostly works remotely. A few days together go a long way.

Some highlights from this year:

→ We’ve made real strides in feasibility studies and operational business planning — helping organizations make confident, informed decisions at any stage in a venue’s lifecycle. Expanding this work is central to our mission, and it was energizing to see how far we’ve come.

→ Our signature design projects — spanning the country and the globe — are pushing the creativity and skill of our entire team. From our drafters and equipment designers to our veteran theatre consultants, the caliber of work being produced right now is something we’re incredibly proud of.

→ And we took time to celebrate the people behind it all. Every team member went home with custom TheatreDNA orange travel luggage — a small but meaningful thank you, and a reminder to take time off, go on adventures, and fill up outside of work too.

2025 was a strong year. We’re heading into what’s next with clarity, gratitude, and a lot of momentum.

Thank you to this team. Onward. 🧡
