Not everyone has a top-notch coach just on the other side of the room in a buzzing circus space. Someone you can book a private lesson with for some hands-on spotting, to help you nail a new skill.

Some of us (my hand is in the airšŸ‘‹) live in a small town without another pro nearby.

Ā ā€œuplevelingā€ requires traveling to seek out coaching. And tbh that’s not always easy.Ā

So when you can’t get out of town to UP-Level, then stay home and get -DOWN.Ā

What I mean is. GET DOWN LOW. Rig yourself close to the floor, have quality crash mats and give yourself drills and progressions that if you fall, it wouldn’t hurt.Ā

P.S. Just because you are working low doesn’t mean you should go totally solo.

Friendly reminder, it’s goodĀ  to have someone in the room with you, yes, even your granny šŸ‘µ as long as she knows how to dial for help if needed. Safety first, legends. 🫠

Here’s to those of you humbly working low, figuring it out as you go.

Raise your hand if this is you.) āœ‹

Is this a thing? ( I need your inputšŸ‘‡)
I was looking at this sequence, thinking about the idea of ā€œstyleā€. This sequence very much fits within my usual M.O. I’d say it feels on-brand. šŸ˜‰
But what exactly about this sequence feels like me?

The phrase that popped into my head…this is a ā€œtransition sequenceā€
(Is this a thing?)

āœ”ļøEach move takes you to a new wrap
āœ”ļøYou don’t stay in one wrap for very long
āœ”ļø There’s no big drop or final pose waiting at the end

This kind of thing is my jam, because I can move and dance through each transition, rather than have any one destination in mind

So now I’m curious.

Have you heard this phrase before?
And if not… should we make it one?

When overthinking starts killing your flow, try this šŸ‘‡

Ever notice how the moment you try to get into flow… your brain starts narrating everything?

ā€œThat wasn’t right.ā€
ā€œI don’t like that shape.ā€
ā€œWhy am I not in flow yet?ā€

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøLately I’ve been borrowing a concept from meditation:
Notice the moment your mind wanders (to where you don’t want it to go), then gently bring it back to a point of focus.

Curiosity is my mantra.
I’m taking some creative liberty with the word mantra here, traditionally it’s a repeated, closed loop.

But using inquiry to create one-pointed attention isn’t new, it’s ancient.

In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali names vitarka and vichāra (gross and subtle inquiry) as valid anchors, leading from concentration (dharana) into meditation (dhyana).

In this system, it’s not the object that matters, but the act of one-pointed attention itself. Breath, sound, sensation, or inquiry. Any single anchor can quiet the noise and support flow.

Ā For me, a small shift toward curiosity can change the whole experience.

Sometimes that’s enough to keep your momentum instead of getting stuck.

Feel free to steal my ā€œwhat ifā€ mantra. Or find one for yourself.Ā

What’s your creativity mantra? Or what will it be?Ā

šŸ˜Picture this ā¬‡ļø

You’re excited to create a new act, so the first thing you do is grab your trusty aerial journal

(yup, we’re still doing pen + paper)
. pull up your aerial videos on your phone and start MAKING A LIST

šŸ¤“The intention is great. Get organized, prioritize skills you love, and string them together logically.

But here’s where this approach can sabotage you:

What makes sense ā€œon paperā€ often makes zero sense in the air.

But here’s the biggest problem…

If everything is planned from the beginning, there’s no room for magic

āž”ļøTry this instead

Use that journal to brainstorm, not solve everything on paper.

Instead of a list of skills, let this be more of a creative vision board:

šŸŒ€How do you want your audience to feel?
šŸŒ€Ideas for story or character
šŸŒ€Visual imagery you’d like to include
šŸŒ€References to inspirational work
šŸŒ€ā€¦AND a couple of skills or sequences you love…as a jumping off point

To create something that is uniquely YOU, there needs to be space for physical exploration.

That’s where the magic happens.

Build in room for discoveries INTO your process and you’ll find a whole new approach to act creation.

Share this with an aerial friend who also loves to make a list…
